So very true. One's art is not here to win a popularity contest. One creates art for themselves and themselves ,alone. Page views doesn't not make you a better artist. Only you, alone, can achieve that by learning and excelling in your art form or medium.

But there is no sense in hunting for pageviews.

I agree with what your stamp is saying. EVen the greatest of artists in the beginning had no audience whatsoever, but that didn't stop them from doing what they loved best.
Sure it's nice to have many people watching you, but like my signature says, do this to please yourself...not others.
If you get an audience along the way, good for you, but don't let that run how you do things.

I know what you are getting at, but having an audience is an important part of art. The reason why many artists post their work online is to promote their work.
But I know what you are getting at. I don't like those artists that put populartiy before the art itself. If you creating artwork that is 'in' just to recieve more views than that isn't what art is about. But if you are truly talented, and have a gallery of unique and truly beautiful pieces you deserve the popularity. I hope this made sense. I didn't quite know how to word it properly

Oh so true. If you want to become a better artist, it does help to be well known since more people will see your art and tell you what they think of it. But when it comes down to it, it's not about inflating your ego. It's about learning more about art, sharing interests, and sharing your passion for art.

I don't fully agree. Yes, the art is the most important part of Deviant Art. That is what this website/community is based on. Art. But exposure is important too. Maybe it doesn't really matter who has more page views, but the more people see your work, the more likely you are to get commissions, sell prints, etc.
Honestly, I think they need to move the pageviews counter to the actual gallery. Just because people stumble upon your page doesn't mean they like your work. But if, on your page, you display something that interests them enough to click 'Browse Gallery,' well then. That would be a much more accurate 'interest counter'.

Nothing truer.
though there is some lesson to be learned about popularity, it's taken me some time to realize how to utilize it positively without deception and without obsession. Familiarity breeds content, by this it is important to practice one's social skills along with their art skills (this includes the whole critique department) plus being a good sport about the whole thing.
Learning what is successful without having to sell out is a very delicate procedure. So in the meantime, worrying about the pageviews is futile. I've learned that part a long time ago.

I personally like page views, simply cause its nice to know at least one other person saw my work. (okay I prefer comments more than anything but if I get 6 page views it makes my day!) XD
However with that said I those who are obsessed with page view counts. Recently stopped watching a artist do to their begging for more views in every piece. "Hi guy! Fav this trying to be famous so e-mail this like to all!" or "No one likes this it seems I'm going to take it off *emo"\

Never liked pageviews.Espacially when it comes to page views karibian, it's all bullshit gayness.
Even if you do get a big number, doesn't mean your popular with tons of messages or people bowing to you.
Anyways, those numbers should be at the BOTTOM of the page unotice, where they belong. Besides, this site is dying if you see the amount of art that's being posted in the past few years.

for some, pageviews should be reminders on how people don't find their too great, if it rises of , lets say, 6000 with very very few signs of replies or anything. lol, all on chances.

But sometimes it saddens me to see some seriously amazing artists get like...no recognition at all. As much as I hate to say it, exposure really counts, especially if the said artist is trying to sell commissions/prints.
