I have founded another fantastic example to understand better the glass illusion.......so ill spend other 2 words...
If u think to create this glass [link] in photoshop....u'll need think to that how only an illusion....
this illusion is created by 2 different tones: 1) water tones (background) and 2) out of water tones (foreground)......so this contrast in photoshop create a glass......and yes this effect can be enhanced using, "dust",bubbles,fish, reflection on glass etcc....

The idea is cute......but there is a big problem...the tones. for this reason, the problem not is the glass....
In few words u have created 2 different tones distraction....and for this reason, the brain misunderstands the image! I try to explain u better.. with my fantastic english
The first bad information is the fish orange and the second is the girl green.......So the girl seem blended with the background and the fish seem flying free on hair
that water is not clear but dense and green......so u must reduce the fish saturation and adjust the color balance of him..playing more on green...but at the same time leave ur orange tone!
About the girl.....reduce about 85% that green on her!!
the glass is only a visual illusion 
When u have problems......u need think how real life always!!! It's simply.....go on google or where u want.......and find real photos! In this case u can help urself watching for example this -----> [link] u need observe all tones, all lights etcc....I had learned many things..not studying....but simply observing the real life.
...And u know the real life have infinite details...for this reason these works need a lifetime to be learned perfectly
ahhhhh i forgot 1 thing.....that fish need about 0,2% or 0,5% of blur...just a bit!

You are right about the fish it can be toned down, as for the girl I took her from a real picture where she is sitting in front of a big aquarium, so what you see is real life. In real she was that green so I don't want to change that. What I did do is blur the wall a little. Always thankful for your comments

Have you tried a kind of rustic small frame? That at least would give an idea of a window.....just an idea!

Ja genau, solche weiße softe Streifen, vielleicht noch eine Spiegelung vom Model aber auch soft, also leicht durchsichtig.
Wenn ich was hartes tun will, dann schau ich mir das inet durch und hoffe was zu finden

I tried some things already, but are not happy about it. The original photo (where she is sitting in front of a big aquarium) gives no clues eather, there is no "spiegelung" in the glas and its just clear. But I will search some more, thanks
