She's laying there with her eyes closed, very much like she's sound asleep. She looks like she's really at peace right now.
My guess is that she committed suicide in the privacy of her own room when no one was around. She stabbed herself in the belly with that red-handled blade near her. She struggled with the pain of dying a slow and painful death for a time, which is why she's all curled up. She eventually pulled out the blade, and (from what it looks like) she bled to death.
If you kept her in the same pose, but drew her in another photo in another background, you could use this same pose to depict finally having wings that blossomed from her back. Then she would have wings to fly and be free. Now that she's dead, she has freedom from a life that can be very strict, rigid, demanding, lots of work, and unfair likely. At least that's what I would think.
But looking a little closer, you don't see any blood on her gloves. You'd think that blood, at least some of it, would be on her white gloves. So it's probable that she had some she trusted, perhaps a boyfriend, do the stabbing.
The time setting looks like it would be some time in the late afternoon; like around 4 to 6 pm. The sun is setting, and ready to become evening.
She's young, she was nice looking and nicely dressed. She's so dressed that you would think that she would have a decent life to look forward to. So all the ingredients to make a picture look tragic are all there. But the strategic lighting and color scheme in this picture greatly help to render this picture of gloom, tragedy, and sadness. Or at least those two things help to diminish a sense of gloom, tragedy, and sadness.
I love the detail that you gave to the folds in her skirt, they look realistic. It was also good how you made her attractive, but not too sexy.
This should be sad to look at. BUT WAS VERY TASTEFULLY MADE!!!
