UPDATE: I changed his chest and shoulders since I liked Prowl's prewar Cybertronian design in the Shadowplay story arc from IDW's MTMTE a lot more than his look in RiD.I made him a tad bit shorter than Prowl and Bluestreak to spice things up. His shoulder cannons are also different because they emit smoke... screens...

Cool that you changed the sprite by making it a tad shorter. Always figured him for the "kid brother" of the Datsun Bros.

Yep. 
For a quick 'summary' of what's going to be written...
The story takes place after the war between the bots and cons. A truce has been put into effect after the Fallen tried to summon Unicron and destroy Cybertron (cuz you know, when a God tries to destroy your planet, wars tend to stop XD). Those who were in the military have disbanded and now try to live "normal" lives as best as they can as they all (including the neutrals and "non-affiliated-indigenous-lifeforms, NAILs for short, who've returned hearing that the war has ended). NAILS/Neutrals do NOT get along w/ the veterans... and eventually, some killings start to occur.
People just assume they're just hate crimes... but when more and more people are killed (all cannon characters like Sideswipe, Red Alert, Insecticons, etc), Nightbeat is called into action. He's partnered up with Smokescreen at the Iacon Police Department (IPD) under the management of Ultra Magnus. Together the two try to uncover the mystery of the seemingly random killings and try to stop whomever is behind them.
The "NEW" version is in the process of being re-written right now, but I do have the old, and much crappier version (that was a project for my criminalistics class in high school) if you're interested. Of course, in the older version, I don't have Smokescreen... and it's pretty poorly written in my opinion... 
BUT. The new version is almost through with the planning stage... so expect the newer version to be out soon!

Sounds pretty neat. Kinda reminds me of the current story arc in IDW's Robots in Disguise.
Are you planning to invclude Nightbeat's sidekick or sorts, Siren?

Yeah, I can say that and MTMTE inspired this a little bit.
I was going to, but I just think Smokescreen fit into the story a little more than Siren (Don't get me wrong, I love Siren too XD) Trust me, once you read it I'm sure you'll find it in your heart to forgive me for not including Siren or Hosehead XD
