Meet Dharma, Wolf Park's latest non-bison addition!She was born in 2010 at the New York State Zoo. Shortly afterwards, Dharma and three of her littermates were brought to Wolf Park in Battleground, Indiana, to be socialized. While her siblings were sent to other zoos, the park kept Dharma to add new DNA to the gene pool. At the moment, all of the Main Pack wolves share a mother (who, by an awkward accident, is the sister of four wolves' father) save for the little black yearling.
Although her coat is black, Dharma's mother is actually an Arctic wolf (Canis lupus arctos). Her father, on the other hand, is a mix of various North American gray wolf subspecies nicknamed "Canis lupus soupus". Consequently, Dharma appears slimmer and lankier than her "C.l. soupus" packmates at Wolf Park.
The bison had a calf this year, which I remembered just before saying that Dharma was the park's latest addition

I can't quite tell from the photo, but..does she have a hole in her ear, or is that just something in front of her or in her fur? She's gorgeous, I'm in love with her coloration. <33

It's probably just the lighting or some dirt on her ear fuzz. I didn't see any holes in her ears in person, but that's certainly possible

You have another photo of the same wolf [ [link] ] and it's still there, so it can't be just something in front of her, or even on the camera lens...I'd guess it's something in her fur, or indeed a tiny hole. Most of the wolves I've seen have mild scarring on the tips of their ears, if this is the case, then this would be quite a bit more interesting and unique, if you ask me. xD
But..wow. I just can't get over those golden-yellow amber-topaz eyes..she's absolutely amazing. ^^

Yeah, it's just some dirt or fluff on her ear. The flies mostly leave her alone and no one else has photos of her that show a hole in her ear. Even if Dharma does have a hole in her ear, the insides of her ears are fuzzy enough to keep us from seeing to the back.
Heheh, she's half-Arctic wolf, so she has some unusually colorful eyes. They compliment her coat quite well! XD

So long as you're 18+ years of age and have no visible signs of illness, you can usually meet the wolf you sponsor
I've been told that going in with the wolves is a great experience, but just visiting Wolf Park is an incredible experience in itself.

You got to meet her? Lucky! Haha, I got to meet Basil a few years ago, but I won't be old enough to go in with the wolves for another half a year or so.

I've been to the park a few times in with the wolves :3 Once I turned 18 I got a plane ticket out to Indy to go to the park! I've gotten to meet Wolfgang, Wotan, Reudi, Renki, Ayla, and Dharma. All of them are a ball!
When you are able to, do it for sure! Nothing beats getting kissed by a wolf XD
