Douglas Camfield started his work with Doctor Who almost immediately - filming some inserts for the show's first story "An Unearthly Child" (the story block, not the individual episode) and directing stories featuring the first four televised Doctors until swearing an oath on a cathedral altar that he would give up Doctor Who, a promise he kept to his wife. Known for military precision, he directed some of the longest running story blocks such as "The Dalek Masterplan" and "The Invasion". Here he is, the original image showing him posing as one of the pre-Hartnell Doctors.
