Description Yeah, uh, is anyone surprised that I like Power Girl? Heh.

To be honest, I don't know much about the character, I think the only comic I've ever read that she's in is the Superman/Batman TP collecting the first Loeb/McGuinness storyarc. All I know is that she's somehow connected to Superman, so I decided to put her in a reasonably heroic pose, looking into the distance with her cape and hair flowing in the wind and all that jazz.

I've been trying to be more deliberate with my line weight variation lately, and I've changed a lot about how I approach inking in general, so... lemme know what you think.

Pencil, brush, various pens.

I love the pose. The expression is a little odd . . . but not bad.

You did a good job varying the line-weight. It helps to give her fullness and roundness. It's specialy good on the arm that's coming at you. Also like the angle of view that you choose, it adds interests to the picture.

I think that this one has good potential to become colored piece.

I'm with you that I don't know much about Power Girl. I could be wrong 'cause I don't read any DC tittles but I think that she is related to one of those other universe Supermans. I think his cousin.

Thanks - inking like this kind of slows me down at the moment, but I think once I get the hang of it, I can start doing it over more loose pencils, so it should balance out in the end.

And yeah, I seem to remember something like that about Power Girl too. DC Comics and their eleventy different universes... honestly, I'm not a fan of this type of stuff, and it's what's keeping me away from a lot of their titles...

Agreed. DC comics universe thingy is weird. Specially since some stories are rendered void when those universes combined together. I prefer marvel, image, and darkhorse comics.
I got a bunch of free DC stuff last month during "Free Comic Book Day". There were some good reads, but there tons of others that just stunk!

Honestly, I think Marvel suffers from a lot of the same problems, it all just stems from the whole "shared universe" thing having gotten out of control, i.e. to the point where it's become and end in itself and not a tool to tell good stories anymore. I tend to stay away from the big "commercial" titles altogether for the most part these days, they just... suck.

Yeah, I know, says the guy who has a Civil War banner in his journal. *cough*

I think that Marvel is better than DC about it, and while I am enjoying the Civil War conflict I have to agree that alot of the tittles out there just don't hold my interest.

For a while now I've been "on and off" with comics. I'll collect a bunch of tittles for a while and then the art starts to suck or the stories just don't do it and I stop. There's nothing more frustrating than going to the comic book store and walking out empty handed because everything that's out that month is cheesy.

You're just looking at the wrong comics, dude... I just filled out my Previews order, and I was getting worried I'd run out of space. There's plenty of good stuff out there if you know where to look and steer clear of the big "events" that Marvel and DC keep flooding the stores with.

You're probably right...any suggestions?

I'll note you a list of suggestions, but it'll take a while - I'll go through my pull list and see what I'd recommend to anyone.

Nice pic. Kind of freakin' me out because I started inking a Powergirl pic last night. (Great minds think alike I guess). In my version, though, the boobs are a lot bigger. Surprised? I didn't think so...

You gonna' throw some color on this or what, dude? I think it would look suhweet.

Dude, it's bad enough your last upload is Superman-related and totally cooler than this one.

And yeah, I'm definitely coloring this - thanks!

Yeah, it's odd that we both just suddenly drew some Superman related stuff. Messing around with a Batman pic at the moment.

Lookin' forward to the colors.

Surely the big dog hasn't caved into the peer pressure and has actually done a corporate character?!?!

I think my eyes might melt

ITs very nice work, my only nit pick would be the top of her outfit, i can't really tell where it stops

Ahh well, must be my eyes again

Hahaha. C'mon, I've done plenty of fanart, it's just been a while, I guess. You're just mad because it's not a Marvel character. Which reminds me, I drew a Cable pic yesterday, but it came out looking like crap, so no postey.

As for the outfit, uh... there's a collar... maybe the V shape at the front looks like it's supposed to be throat details, I dunno... that'll solve itself when I color it, anyway.

I don't believe you're capable of crap art, note me the cable pic...

spacehamster In reply to Lewis-Paul [2006-06-11 19:29:52 +0000 UTC]

Honestly can't, sorry - it's pencil only and much larger than A4 size, and patching scans of pencils together is next to impossible, I'd have to ink it first. Besides, it's only half finished, most of the blacks aren't filled in, so even if I could scan it... bleh. It just came out looking incredibly stiff because I was out of practice and trying stuff I'm no good at. That tends to happen when I'm not practicing enough.

Ah, I'll probably take another shot at Cable soon. He's actually kind of an old favorite of mine, if you can believe it.

Ooh, very nice!

The middle fold of her cape should be a tad more rounded. It looks a bit awkward the way it is now.

The line variety looks good, though I would suggest giving some more weight to the line at the edge of her face to add some separation between her face and her hair.

spacehamster In reply to GH-MoNGo [2006-06-11 17:38:31 +0000 UTC]

I suck with capes. There's just no two ways about it.

As for the outline of the face, I'm so not sure about that... that's the side of her head facing the light, and you generally want to keep the lines on that side a bit thinner anyway. Maybe some more detailing/shading on the hair around that area would've made it pop more, though. I do agree that area looks a bit under-defined.
