For ~esoteric-memories 's fanfic "HinaSasuIno" [link] -- I hope you like it!This is the best team overhaul story I've ever come across. And funny as all get out--with Sasuke being the lone male on his team (his Jounin sensei is Kurenai), you almost feel bad for him. Then you realize it's actually GOOD for him because he's such an angry, vengeful little boy. If he had supportive teammates like Ino and Hinata, he wouldn't leave Konoha.
Anyways, I recommend reading the story. It focuses much more on the kids, and how they grow up with each other, unlike the canon story.
As for the actual piece...it started out with flat colors. Then it picked up a bit of cel-shading because I thought it'd look nifty. Then, after I did that ShikaHina banner, I completely re-did the shading to look a bit softer. And Hinata's hair...I tried doing so many things to it to show shininess similar to what they do in the anime, but that block look wasn't working well with everything else in the picture. I think I figured out something that works well though...
Top picture is the initial team picture that everyone takes, but I omitted Kurenai. Hinata's intimidated about being put on a team with the top kunoichi and the top rookie of her class; Ino is just in-your-face, with a bit of a forced, aggressive grin; Sasuke is a brat and thinks he's too good for his team.
Bottom picture is right before their Chuunin Exam. Ino and Hinata bought new outfits earlier, and I have to say, ~esoteric-memories has got good fashion sense. They're entirely her design; all I did was come up with the cut of Ino's mesh shirt and the embroidered pattern on Hinata's shirt. Anyways, Ino looks much more relaxed and genuine; Hinata looks more confident (her place in the middle reflects her position as team leader, which both Ino and Sasuke decided for her), and her hair is growing out, as per an agreement she had with Ino--Ino will only grow her hair if Hinata grows hers; Sasuke has a smile-smirk hybrid going on and he actually looks content with his team. And the really really slight, squint-to-see-it SasuHina-ness was done on purpose...you have to read the story to get it!
Yamanaka Ino, Hyuuga Hinata, and Uchiha Sasuke belong to Kishimoto Masashi. "HinaSasuIno" belongs to ~esoteric-memories .

Ah, sorry! I'm not the writer of the fic, I only drew the picture. But yeah, Sasuke is for the most part the same, just slightly more accepting of his teammates (bratty 'before' picture, slightly nicer 'after' picture).

I love your backstory behind Ino and Hinata's hair. I always thought that Ino could benefit Hinata the way she benefited Sakura, but instead of growing their hair out of competition, Hinata and Ino grew theirs out for friendship.

Ino and Hinata have a great connection and genuine friendship in Esoteric-memories' fanfic! Actually their agreement about growing out their hair is my favorite chapter.

Thanks, I'm glad you like it! I don't think I'll draw the other young Konoha nin since I don't think I have a strong enough grasp on their personalities in the AU setting, but when Esoteric-memories adds a chapter with Sasuke's new outfit design, I'm definitely going to try to draw it.

Ino would have to be at least a little tomboyish to nab the title of top kunoichi of her class...I can't see her being prissy and still having the skills to be at the top. And I'm glad to hear the facial expressions were effective in reflecting their changes!

I remember I started reading that fic! But then I forgot about it... But I'm gonna re-start now. :] I like the second set of the fanart better than the first, but who doesn't? I like Ino and Hinata's new outfits.
And I like how you made them all away from eachother in the first set, then they coem together in the second! Does that make any sense? Oh well! x]

looks great ^-^ you know, the colours for sasuke and hinata look very good together here. and also, coloured, you can really see the difference in their eyes before and after. i'm not very coherent right now because of giddiness. they look so much happier! much more relaxed... and i have to say... the sasuhinaness here is very nice too, very natural. those two look good together here ^-^ and might i add that ino does NOT look as background charactery as she does in canon?

Aw! This is so cute and awesome. I'm going to read this fic right now- since you rec it so highly. I have to say I agree, I love Ino and Hinata's outfits from the fan fic, so kudos to the writer for having good tastes in clothes- much better than Ino's Timeskip Tramp...I mean kunoichi outfit in Shippuden. And Sasuke...still a smug little brat; but at least he doesn't look quite so mean/moody in the second set of the fan art. Awesome job Spam! -wanders away to read the fan fic-

Ino's Timeskip Tramp look and Sakura's new outfit aren't all that different, actually. I noticed they both now wear sleeveless tops, elbow coverings, short shorts, and apron type thingies over the shorts. I had a comic idea involving it too...and I was going to have Tenten and Hinata hand Ino and Sakura two bandaids and a cork each and tell them, "Studying your outfit changes through the years, we've deduced this is the next step."
