Description It took exactly two weeks, and here it is as beautiful as I was hoping it would be. Celestia's Sunset was a very fun project for me and I had had the idea floating around for a day or two before I started working on the painting. I have a new, complete set of Prismacolor watercolor pencils and I really wanted to test the range of colors and see if I could get the lighting and shadows right for the sunset. I used gouache to paint the clouds and the jagged mountain and I used WC pencil in multiple layers on everything else. Once I finished painting, I went in with my Prismacolor Verithins and outlined Celestia to give her contrast and to add more shadows. All in all I loved the combination of art supplies I used and I think they worked well together to bring this painting to life.

Supplies: Strathmore 300 Series Watercolor Paper, Prismacolor Watercolor Pencils, Prismacolor Verithin Pencils, and Reeves Gouache

This is probably my most favourite picture so far. Sure, I love winter, that is why Winter Fun  got my attention but this sunset! It's gorgeous. The contrast between the warm colours and the outer edges with the clouds flowing on top of everything. I love this shot! It's beautiful!

On a bit of a personal note, I prefer a more cartoonish depiction of ponies and characters in general but I can appreciate a bit more grounded design, especially when it is created with so much effort.

Sorry again for not really understanding anything about your supplies or process of drawing. You went so in-depth in your description but for a layman like myself, it's all just pencils, markers and paper.

I'm so excited that you like my Princess Celestia fanart! It did take quite a bit of effort to get the lighting right for the piece. Fortunately, the water-soluble art mediums I used allowed for multiple applications of color to deepen the shadows and increase the overall contrast. As far as the style goes, it was always my dream to draw realistic horses and I loved giving Celestia a makeover. I definitely like cartoon ponies too and I will be going back and forth between styles in my sketchbook. Stay tuned for more!

Water-soluble art mediums? Are those some watercolor pencils or just normal watercolor that is applied with a brush? Either way, I understand the need for special paper now. If I tried multiple application of watercolor on some recycled paper ripped out of a notebook, the paper would turn into a soggy tissue.

Anyway, I will be looking forward to see what more you have to offer. Cartoonish or slighly more realistic anatomy.

Whoops, late reply. I just got back on DA. My water-soluble supplies consist of traditional watercolor, watercolor pencils, gouache, and more recently aqua ink. They all require different applications and result in different looks. I certainly enjoy experimenting with them as well and I'm slowly picking out the ones that I feel compliment my art style the best. As always, thanks for following along with my art journey and I hope you stick around to see what I have in store next.

Okay, in other words, you use more supplies than I would ever consider. You know, I'm glad to be following you on your art journey but it feels more like I'm just dragged through the dirt and trying to catch up, considering how little I actually know about various tools and supplies.

But I will stick by and see what you come up with. And you don't need to worry about being late. I am not going anywhere anytime soon.

Awe, you shouldn't feel bad about being unfamiliar with the art supplies I use. Part of why I use so many different types is that it sparks my creativity and I really enjoy learning something new. Sorry if it seems so overwhelming! ' You don't need to know everything or have all the supplies to make awesome art, just a few trusty supplies that you like. Your art is certainly awesome! I'm glad to have you along for the ride.
