Rumors spoke of a beast in SPLICE's early days, a project planned from the start to recreate a legendary Pokemon they had lost.
They called it "Project Rebirth." Such an old project that it had no acronym. No name.

I suppose I empathized with the Splice, and romanticized the idea of a Splice that would understand me.
Which is why I was so determined to find it.

Supposedly there are several layers of security doors and locks to keep it from getting loose... but that was never any problem for me.

As I came closer to it, I could hear its voice echoing in my head, almost compelling me to come closer, getting louder and louder until I could hear its voice screaming inside my own mind.

I found the beast restrained by an elaborate mechanism that periodically electrocuted them and tugged at their joints to keep them restrained, so I could comfortably approach the fatigued monster with no fear for my life.

The beast could sense the looming shadow beginning to cast over my wounded, grieving soul, and they proposed a bargain.

"I WILL GIVE YOU THE DARKNESS IN YOUR HEART THAT WILL ALLOW YOU TO NEVER HURT AGAIN.
YOU MAY DO WHATEVER YOU WISH.
BUT. IN RETURN. WHEN YOU ARE DONE, YOU MUST ERASE IT ALL."

"How?" I asked.

"RELEASE ME."
