Well, I don't think it's gross because of the age gap, but I don't ship it.
The idea of them romantically turns me off simply because Zoey and Bill so obviously share a father/daughter relationship.
And that was sort of made more obvious during the comics that Valve released before The Sacrifice was released.
We got to see Zoey lose her father, whom she was so very close to. She gravitated towards Bill during the apocalypse because he probably reminded her of her father.
The age difference has nothing to do with my not shipping them.
I happen to ship the 12th Doctor with Clara Oswald from Doctor Who.
It's not about the age. It's about the connection. If the relationship seems right, then it's right.

Oh, I get that.
I often feel that way about 12/Clara. I love the idea of them being this deeply bonded platonic relationship. But then the other part of me is like, "I ship this. I SHIP IT SO HARD!"
But, I totally felt so awful for Zoey in the comics, and especially after The Sacrifice. =/

Zoey: (tears running down her cheeks) N-no, you d-don't! I've already lost one father; I d-don't want to lose another!
Bill: (holds Zoey) Don't cry, kiddo... don't cry. Everything's gonna be fine. This has to be done. It has to be me.
Zoey: Why?
Bill: (sigh) Because I'm dying anyway.
Zoey: I... I love you, Bill...
Bill: I love you too, Zoey.
(Bill and Zoey separate, tears running down Zoey's face like waterfalls. Bill takes one last look at the young woman who had become like a daughter to him, sighs, and readies his rifle as he heads out to sacrifice himself)
