Description Once upon a time, there was you and me.
We didn't know each other, but we always passed each other in the hall.
You would stare into my eyes and give this small smile, and I'd return it.
We didn't even interact more than that until that bonfire.
You were looking for your friends, you told me later. I told you I was looking for someone to talk to. You opened your mouth to ask where Johnny and Lucas were, but your noise was soon muffled under the feel of my lips on yours.
(You can thank that Johnny friend of yours for pushing me out of the way of Lucas throwing up. Too much beer bonging.)

You pulled back, chuckling a bit, as I turned beet red; no one makes me blush. Until you.
You asked me my name, and I told you it. You said, "Hello, I'm Brendon."
And we started from there.

It took three dates for us to learn about each other, and five for us to finally feel comfortable around each other. You took me shopping, out to eat, to see a movie, to the fair, to Busch Gardens, and then a walk around a park. We talked and talked, finally moving past 'stranger in the hall/someone who fell into me and our lips met' to 'feeling a few sparks/nearing boyfriend-girlfriend.'

"I've never met a girl like you," you said to me as you picked up a daffodil from the grass and handed it to me. I made a tiny wish and blew all the air out of my lungs, the wind helping me spread the weed's seeds. I wish you'd be with me for the next few years.

I giggled after they all disappeared and asked, "Well, what type of girl am I?"

You went on and on, flattering me, complimenting me, making me blush. After two hours of walking, we sat on one of the benches and cloud watched, making pointless conversation. You had your arm around my shoulders, and I had my head resting on your shoulder.

"You look cute with those sunglasses," you complimented, looking down. Your breath made fogs on the Ray Bans and I shook my head, trying to make it go away.

I replied, "You look good in that leather jacket. Kind of like... House's motorcycle jacket." I grinned, and you chuckled, muttering something that sounded like, 'OCD.'

Finally, the next day in school, with your leather jacket off, a plaid button-down on and my favorite pair of your jeans, you asked me that golden question. "Will you be my girlfriend?"

And I, in my pink flowy sundress, answered, "Of course."

We hugged.

---

We hadn't kissed since the night of the bonfire till that time at Six Flags where you beat me at Mortal Kombat, which we were playing to try to get the adrenaline rush out from all the rides. I stood there, mouth agape, staring at the screen which flashed, "SUB-ZERO WINS. FATALITY," with Sub-Zero standing victorious and my precious Kitana on the floor in tiny pieces. You took me by the shoulders, spun me around and planted one.

You know how they say you should feel 'sparks,' shivers down your spine and electricity in your veins when you kiss someone? I definitely felt it. Or maybe I was just shocked by you. Your hair was getting frizzy that day, but not as bad as mine.

---

Your parents said you had no choice. "'We're moving to Canada. That's final,'" you mimicked in a deep voice, which really did resemble your father. I shed a few tears, hugging you tight, digging my nails into your leather jacket as you rubbed circles on my back. When we pulled away, you took off that lovely jacket and put it around my shoulders. I clutched it tight that night as I cried myself to sleep.

I told you if you ever meet him, say hi to Andrew Bravener for Alex and me. You chuckled, rolled your eyes, and said, "Yeah, sure, he's too old for you guys anyway."

One last kiss, and you were off, 40,000 feet in the air on your way to Ontario with my brown leather bracelet, while I'm stuck here in Jacksonville with your leather jacket.

(We miss you.)
Thank you for staying as long as you could.
