This was inspired by Biofauna25 ’s “Living Islands” from his xenobiology project “Nerrivik ”.
I’d recommend checking it out if you feel like it.

Aninsulas (Latin words “anima” and “insula”, meaning “breathing island”) are large yacht-sized specimens drifting on the currents of Gikumo’s shallow waters. They are by far Gikumo’s largest specimens, measuring over 52-61 meters (170-200 ft) in length and 24-35 meters (78-114 ft) across.
Hence their names, these gigantic sponge/poriferan-like organisms resemble floating animated islands with sandy-colored undersides and blue vegetation located on the top; the latter being mostly due to their symbiotic relationships they rely on. Most of the plant matter are composed of grass-like moss and fern-like plants of any shape or form. They also possess multiple large gas-filled bladders within their top bodies that aid their drifting locomotion on the surface wherever the wind takes them.
The amount of flora on the aninsulas’ backs prompt many commensal specimens to use them for camouflaging safely from flying predators, whilst being used as rest stops by other specimens.
