Description
The Mermaid is, of course, Princess Ai from the series of the same name. I don't remember what I was thinking at the time of drawing this, only that I was loving the manga's artwork and punk, goth-loli/punk clothing designs, and I'm always into mermaids, so I just combined the two. In fact that's how many of my concepts begin for a lot of my drawings. I'm an artistic Dr. Frankenstein if you will ^^ I love this piece, but if there is one thing I love above all others it's the strand of black pearls. You can see I worked very closely to make them look like real pearls (though it's harder to make out on this small version, but you can still kinda see it). Making the gloves look like fishnets was a real pain in the ass, but they turned out good at least. I remember it took me the longest time from drawing this to actually inking it. I was afraid I'm mess up the original, as I'm not too confident with my line work (well, that and the fact that it's virtually impossible for me to find a good pen). Thank goodness for tracing boxes ^^
