Yeah, Navi isn't good for hints lol.
And actually, it sounds like you got pretty close. You're supposed to get the the top, then jump down to break the spider webs and fall down that hole.
I'd have to go play to tell you the rest. It's been forever since I've played XD

lol I eventually just stopped talking to her after a while.
I'm sure you could beat it if you picked it up again.
To this day, I despise the water temple! ><

Ugh, that thing was impossibly hard for my brother. And he almost didn't try to beat it because he was freaked out by going inside a fish.

Concrit time! XD (this is coming from someone who was obsessed with drawing horses when she was younger, and who obsessed about drawing people during high school XD)
Epona's body seems a little thick, her eyes are a bit low on her head. Link doesn't seem to actually be holding on; sure his hand is curled but we can't tell that any of her mane is in his hand or anything. Epona's tail seems to be flying back a little oddly. It kind of seems more like she's been frozen in midair than it seems like she's jumping over a high fence.
Link's face is okay, but it's sticking out too far; it needs to be pushed in a little. I love the expression on it though As far as accuracy to the game goes....his bangs aren't, but that's me being nitpicky
That said, I love the effort that clearly went into this. The woodgrain on the fence is just beautiful (this coming from someone who tends to skimp out on the woodgrain; I'm very impressed that you took the time with it). Often in color pencil drawings there will be scratchy areas that let slip the fact that an artist got lazy and just wants to finish up, but I'm seeing none of that in this drawing. The clouds aren't really arranged the way clouds usually are, but taken individually they're very pretty clouds ^^ Although the spikes on the fence look a bit uneven in places, they're still all lovely and seem to have been drawn with a lot of love and care to each individual one. The shading you've done in this picture is just beautiful.
I also really love it that you're drawing something different than what many people draw. There aren't that many that really think about this particular part of Ocarina of Time. (I hated that part to be honest; it's like you waste so many rupees trying to beat Ingo and get the darn horse, and when you finally win Ingo takes you prisoner? I was...rather ticked off at him...XD)
I also love the title of this; not only is Link escaping, but it's freedom for the horse as well. Sure she'll be at Link's beck and call for the rest of the game, but Link's probably a better master than Ingo was and certainly better than Ganondorf would've been.
Hats off to you despite its flaws, this is a dang good picture.

Thank you so much for the critique! I don't think I've ever gotten one so well-written before.
I agree with you very much about Epona's anatomy. I'm not sure why I struggled so much with her while doing this drawing, but in the end I kind of gave up and focused more on coloring. Horse anatomy is usually fairly easy for me, but I think this might have been my first time drawing a jumping horse, so her trunk area seems more than a bit squashed. I'm also not sure why I did her face that way, but again I think I had pretty much given up by that point in hopes that color would cover it up sufficiently.
This was also done back when I had very little experience drawing people, so practically everything about Link in this picture makes me cringe., especially his visible hand, which, as you pointed out, doesn't really seem to be holding on to anything.
And strangely, I think this was one of my favorite moments from the game (I never actually made it out of the damn tree, but I watched my brother beat the game so many times I lost count). I'm not sure why, but I always liked watching Link leap over the fence with Epona so they could ride off into the sunset and get screwed over by Zelda.
Also, thank you for mentioning the fence. I hated that fence. So very much. It was extremely difficult and time-consuming and gave back so very little for my effort. The clouds were about the same way. They were a rushed attempt at finishing the background, and ended up taking quite a bit more time than I'd hoped for minimal impact in return.
Again, thank you very much for the critique. Maybe I'll redo this picture in the future to see how far I've come along since then.

I most certainly understand. I'm terrible at giving constructive criticism, so I usually stay silent, and I am always really impressed when I come across people who can write a good critique.

It's something I do need to learn, though that means taking the time to do so. I've also done critique for writing (high school for me as well) and I was told that I gave some very helpful comments on ways to improve, but I freeze up when it comes to critiquing art.

Yay! Good scene, good scene. XD Love it; great poses for both characters. I especially like the detail on Epona's breastplate. And the perspective in the fence is perfect! I'm always way too lazy to measure it and make it decent and crap. e_e Kudos.

Wow, it looks fantastic!! I'm a huge Zelda fan as well.
I personally love playing the games. I've recently beaten OoT and MM and they make me want to draw some wicked fanart to actually try and justify the game.

Wow, you have my respect. It's always been a pastime of mine to watch people beat games (probably because I've been watching my brother do it since I was about seven). There are so many neat scenes that can be captured. So many fan art opportunities. ^^

I agree. From playing or watching the games you get so much inspiration. I have so many pieces of fanart that I want to draw.
