Description
Kion and his guard spend an additional two years at the Tree of Life, adjusting and working through their demons. Kion himself is no longer bothered by the scars on his face and has made great strides to becoming a better lion. Sometimes, he finds himself wistfully thinking about his childhood and his family- in spite of what they’ve put him through. With the passing of Janna, the gang finally decides it’s time to return home and seek closure. When they arrive, they discover that life in the Pridelands had moved on without them. Kovu is Prince consort, the outlander lions have intigrated into the Pridelands, and they’ve been replaced with Vitani and three other lionesses. Bunga and Fuli almost instantly regret returning and can tell Kion regrets it. Many of his family’s problematic tendancies have died down a bit, but he still can’t hide how bothered he is how they’d consider Vitani to fill in his post. Historically, his dynamic with Vitani had been tumultuous and was looking like it’d remained that way. After a shameful screaming match between the pair of them, Vitani challenges Kion to mashindano and in his agitation, he hastily accepts. Of course, he comes to his senses and realizes his old attitude is resurfacing and he’s drudging up old baggage. After a heart to heart with his sister the night before the fight is to start, he has an epiphany- he isn’t happy in the Pridelands- his two closest friends are lovesick and home is so far away from them. His own from far away from him. The next morning, he calls off the mashindano and announces his departure, officially passing the torch to Vitani and her guard. After a tearful goodbye, Kion, Fuli, and Bunga journey back to the Tree of Life and begin the next chapters of their lives.

I’M SORRY FOR THE LONG DESCRIPTION THIS DESIGN THING IS SHORT. Anywayssss, here’s Kion’s final design at the ‘end’ of “season 3” or at least my interpretation of the events in The Lion Guard. His cub spots officially faded away (sad emojis) and his mane is much more full and will persist to be about Mufasa fluffy. You’ll also notice he’s got the little night pride symbol on his forehead and the background is a brighter shade of green because I pretentiously want to show that this is the best version of Kion we’ve ever seen up to this point.
