Description I customised these plain tees with my own designs by handpainting with indian ink. They are completely washable and highly wearable

The crow design is my t shirt and the tree and bird design I did for a friend (if he sees this I hope he won't begrudge me showing it off!)

Love love the black on white, very striking. But I'm curious, how did you get the ink to stay on the tee? I ask because I spilt india ink on my white shirt today, but managed to get it out with tide to go (thank god!)

spiderdijon In reply to citrus-spark [2007-10-06 07:40:44 +0000 UTC]

Thanks very much! As for the ink, well, it should probably be left for a day or so before sticking in the washing machine just to be safe but so far I've washed my tee about 20 or 30 times and the ink hasn't faded at all. If it helps I use Winsor & Newton indian ink which is really good quality...but I also spilt some ink professing to be 'non-permanent' on the carpet and never really got it out, despite using almost an entire bottle of Vanish carpet stain remover I'm curious as to how you managed to get yours out!

citrus-spark In reply to spiderdijon [2007-10-06 15:42:50 +0000 UTC]

Ah yeah, thanks. I think I managed to get it out because as soon as I spilt it I ran to the bathroom and soaked it with water, which didn't work, then uses those little laundry detergent pens, which works like a charm. I think it's probably the drying time, of course, I'm using cheap cheap ink, too, because I use it in so many of my classes and go through it so fast. I feel for your carpet though.

spiderdijon In reply to citrus-spark [2007-10-07 03:00:19 +0000 UTC]

That's probably where I went wrong...it was the carpet in my uni room so I had to go out to a lecture or something and leave it for a while - there's still a bit of a grey patch there I think but someone else lives there now and I never got charged for it so I guess the 'owers that be' never noticed sneaky!

Wow, it's simple, but great... I'd buy that.
And it's good to know that indian ink can be used for shirts as well.

I really like the idea of a spooky tree and crows in white on black, I will do my best! Let me know what size you are so I can go out and buy a shirt

I really like your painting as it is with the really bold colours - although, I was thinking about a graded background like that but in blue? The leaves/flowers would be red and pink like cherry blossom. What do you think?

Oh and I'm 20, and my name is Sophie, but don't spread that around too much What's your name?

I wonder if Japanese ink would work as well cos I brought a big bottle of it back from Japan and have yet to use it

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

spiderdijon In reply to Darthmiller [2007-07-27 23:27:43 +0000 UTC]

lol well I bought a bottle of 'non-waterproof' ink which turned out to be very indelible - I spilt almost a whole bottle on my carpet, my t-shirt and skirt when I knocked it off my desk and it hasn't come out of my t-shirt after several washes (although much scrubbing, soap, water, elbow grease and Flash Carpet and Upholstery Cleaner eventually rendered the carpet almost normal), so I would give the Japanese ink a go on a scrap of material and bung it in the wash next time you put a load on to see if it washes out
