Description
Madeira cake with green buttercream icing around the bottom, orange and red glace icing on the top and a green and red coloured marzipan dinosaur.The short story behind this cake: I made a madeira cake and, I don't know what I expected because it always comes out like this, but the thing rose beyond belief and it seemed such a shame to cut off the top so I could flatten it out for icing as the top constituted about 1/3 of the cake, so I just decided to make into a volcano instead. This cake was made a couple of days ago but I only just got around to photographing it so apologies if it looks a bit past its best
Photos taken on my Casio EX-Z110 camera out in the garden (fending off my cats that came snuffling around!)

he's made of marzipan, it's quite moist so it glistens

No...you can make it but it's really time consuming and probably ultimately costs more than just buying it ready-made. Before I had any fondant icing to play with, I used marzipan a lot. I think it's much tastier

I think they're probably a bit easier to work with, marzipan doesn't take colour so well, it doesn't mould so crisply and it's a bit sticky

Yeah, it's made out of ground almonds and sugar...it's not for everyone but I looove it. Do you have battenburg cake or is that a british thing? That's covered in a sort of marzipan...

That's an awesome cake! I love that Dinosaur too! Perhaps we should plan a meal together, I'll make the pizza, and you'll make dessert, what a magical meal it would be.

That dinosaur is adorable!!! And I love the lava - it actually looks really tasty - which you wouldn't expect for red/orange coloured icing! Lovely work my dear

The icing is really nice actually, cos the top of the cake was cracked so it goes quite deep and it's still gooey inside
