Description "He deals the cards as a meditation
And those he plays never suspect
He doesn't play for the money he wins
He doesn't play for respect
He deals the cards to find the answer
The sacred geometry of chance
The hidden law of probable outcome
The numbers lead a dance

I know that the spades are the swords of a soldier
I know that the clubs are weapons of war
I know that diamonds mean money for this art
But that's not the shape of my heart "

-Sting, "Shape of my Heart"

Haven't uploaded anything in awhile... since I'm opening the shop I've been working my ass off, haven't had a day off in 3 months... which isn't really conducive to the art mood.

This one's been mostly done for... shit, MOTNHS. There was SOMETHING else I was going to do to it, but for the life of me I can't remember what that was, so I might as well call it done. Been awhile since I did anything for the ladies to drool over...

Now before you go and ask if it's supposed to be Jack Sparrow or someone from Final Fantasy - the answer is no on both accounts... nor was he inspired by either. I've never played Final Fantasy. I'm a role playing geek and this was one of my vampire characters, made long before the Pirate movies. He'd eat Jack Sparrow for breakfast (as much as I love Captain Jack).

Tried something new with this one, colored the lines closer to the color of whatever they outline, so the lines are sort of invisible in most places except where more clarity is required. Still trying to figure out if I like it or not.

My god the way you shade skin is just gorgeous

I'm really liking this characters face, really defined, with those intense eyes of his.
Not to mention he must use some kickass shampoo. That hair. Looks funky fresh.

And another yay for roleplaying geeks!

SpikeJones67 In reply to salvatriss [2011-12-22 06:26:18 +0000 UTC]

Hahaha I know, I wanna know what kind of shampoo he uses. This was the first time I discovered that, "Oh look, brushes in photoshop have textures..." Eh, so I'm still looking for a consistent method of shading skin, I do something different every time. I spent a good deal of time this weekend browsing through youtube tutorials.

And yes. I am a big time RP geek. It's fuel for... well, 90% of my art...

Rocklaw [2011-09-14 19:08:55 +0000 UTC]

Awesome! But how do you manage to do it without a contour (lineart)?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SpikeJones67 In reply to Rocklaw [2011-09-14 21:13:27 +0000 UTC]

There's line art in this one, it's just colored almost the same color as what it contains. You can still see the line art in his hands, and if you zoom in and look at the handle of his dagger, there are a few parts where I forgot to color the lines. I'm only just now starting to try digital painting - doing it without lines. So far I've had much failure and a liiiiiittle recent success. We'll see what comes of it.

Thx for answering , that's an interesting technique.

Your work is amazing! I really want to know how to do something like this : ( haha

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SpikeJones67 In reply to inahport [2011-08-02 23:55:03 +0000 UTC]

Start by staying up all night drawing and don't have a life... haha... Just be aware that you will fail. Expect failures and disappointments and don't ever stop or give up. I STILL throw away 3 sketches for every one I finish. I'm trying to do a comic style pin up of a certain Suicide Girl right now and I've redrawn her face 24 times already, no exaggeration. Don't settle for less than your best.

You're an artist! I feel it difficult to draw, but I feel worse when I have to do the hair and small details. ;/ haha

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SpikeJones67 In reply to inahport [2011-08-04 04:56:03 +0000 UTC]

Anyone can be an artist. I don't think it's any kind of god given gift. Maybe some artists have a certain passion for it, but I still think with a lot of dedication and hard work, anyone can teach themselves to do it. And I still fuss over hair and small details too. Right now I'm working on a comic version of one of my favorite suicide girls and I just couldn't get it to look like her. I erased and redrew her face at least 30 times, no exaggeration. Then I lost count.

KatimusPrime In reply to SpikeJones67 [2011-05-15 04:07:16 +0000 UTC]

Hehe, Ravenloft is actually a very old D&D horror setting. The Vistani are their crazy evil gypsy-folk. I played a half-Vistani for 2 or 3 years and I've gotten quite a shine for them. :3
