Top notch job. Looks like Kodachrome 10 circa 1936. That's not easy.

You are most welcome.

P.S. I'm pro-Democrat too. Shame Ms Rogers wasn't.

I totally agree. But the Republican ways certainly seemed to suit her personality.

Up to a point. She sure struck me to be an FDR Democrat in Golddiggers of 33 and even Kitty Foyle. She wasn't the rabid right-wing red-baiter that her mom was.

God bless Dr. Macro!

Yeah, I was surprised to hear it at first, but as I examined what other people said about her, it fell into place. According to Katharine Hepburn, she was a lot like her mother in the sense that she always wanted to be the best, the star.

jacktheabyssinian In reply to spinningflag [2008-03-10 05:18:09 +0000 UTC]

Her mother was a harridan of the highest order. Anti-FDR, and a personal friend of Joe McCarthy and Ayn Rand, she was a key expert witness for the HUAC. To this day nobody knows why.

Yes I know. I wonder how she put up with that? I would have gone insane.

It gets better. Mom lived with Ginger when Ginger was married. It was yes mum, no mum wherever Ginger went. Don't get me wrong. I really like Ginger Rogers. But she was peculiar. Never smoked. Never drank. Never did drugs. Fun in bed.

Haha, yeah. A very strange woman indeed.

I can never help but wonder who I would have gotten along with in that era. I have a personality that's a bit like Katharine Hepburn's, I guess, in the sense that I tend to be confident and sarcastic. I like to think I'm a lot like Lauren Bacall. I dunno. Just some ponderings of mine while I watch the greatest movies ever made.

jacktheabyssinian In reply to spinningflag [2008-03-11 12:55:32 +0000 UTC]

With Hepburn, anyone who writes a book called Me has me wondering. Apparently Bacall can be demanding to her own level of actors and directors (she made Lars von Trier's life a merry hell) but is wonderful with bit players, but she is an old school left winger so that makes sense. I've had a Louise Brooks fetish since I was ten. She was certifiably nuts! No one have ever said a single bad word about Jean Harlow. Last year I was trying to write a book about pre-code sex kitten Alice White. Nice person, but her sex scandals are only eclipsed by Barbara Payton. So far, the vote goes to Harlow.

Hahaha, I totally agree with the Hepburn thing. I've always admired Myrna Loy and Greer Garson. They seem very graceful, polite and formidable.

Loy was universally loved. She also was one of the first to give the HUAC the bird!

I read some where that she was blacklisted by Hitler. Is that a mistake; was she just blacklisted in Hollywood?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

jacktheabyssinian In reply to spinningflag [2008-03-12 14:45:10 +0000 UTC]

No, she was blacklisted by Hitler. She was an outspoken anti-Nazi. Spike Jones and His City Slickers were sentenced to death in absentia for their song Der Fuhrer's Face. Jones jokingly gave a sigh of relief when Berlin fell!

spinningflag In reply to jacktheabyssinian [2008-03-13 02:10:40 +0000 UTC]

So had Hitler had the chance, he probably would have killed her? That's scary. I really admire her.

jacktheabyssinian In reply to spinningflag [2008-03-13 02:29:08 +0000 UTC]

Oh yes. And Humphrey Bogart, Edward G. Robinson, Fredrick March, Marlene Dietrich (although Hitler wanted to woo her back), Conrad Veidt, and a whole slew of others.

I have the first box set, with Top Hat, Swing Time, Follow the Fleet, and a couple of other's I can't remember off hand.

I blame my mom. When I was little I hated it... but now I've grown to love them. I love old movies!

Me too! My dad would always watch them and I would be really bored, but now I make him watch them.

I've never seen that. I love The Thin Man, The Philadelphia Story, Mrs. Miniver, and Pride and Prejudice (with Greer Garson); those are my favorites. I don't think I could pick just one of them. It depends what I'm in the mood for I think. Whether it be elegant Greer, or witty, acerbic Kate.
