The process of developing one's own style is extremely difficult. It can also be very fun though. I suggest looking at art books and going to art galleries with a sketchbook. You can also browse the web for earlier artists  (two artists whose works I find inspirational are M.C Escher and Henry Rousseau). Calvin and Hobbes is a fun comic series to look at if you want to look at a more cartoony style for reference. The characters are very expressive!

That's exactly what I've been doing, plus, getting inspiration from animal photography. Currently my idol and inspiration is Henry Cole, there's just something about his color pencil sketching over acrylic paint that looks amazing. Thanks for the help, Splash
