She's the Kryptonian goddess of Ice & Darkness/Death & rival to Rao. During Krypton's distant past, her & Rao had a long war with each other, until Rao just barley won & sealed Cythonna inside Krypton itself. However, when Krypton exploded, she emerged unscathed & went in search of the last remnant of Rao. She arrives in Metropolis, where it turns out Superman is sort of a reincarnation of Rao himself. Even with his powers on earth, Supes is no match for the vengeful goddess & is effortlessly trounced whenever he fights her. Cythonna was among the strongest of Krypton's deities physically, & is among one of THE most powerful beings physically in DC comics history, possibly in all of comics period. She effortlessly defeated a full power Superman with just simple backhand. Something even the likes of Doomsday, Mongul, Darkseid or Imperiex couldn't achieve.
