We say the same in Spanish (Ponerse rojo como tomate!)

I'd love to learn Hebrew, but lessons are soooo expensive around here *sob, sob*

A dying language? Oh that's quite sad! I always wanted to learn Hebrew! My great-grandmother spoke some Yiddish, but it's not the same, right?

As for the English thing, I'm an English language teacher/translator major, so that I use English for academic purposes all the time. And also in DA and with friends from school. At home is pure Spanish. And very bad one. (hehe)

a little bit-it's like a high ancient hebrew mixed with german,
it is a really dying language,
it's weird but it's very fashionable here now- to know how to speak yiddish-it's a snob yappies thing-
it shows that your a real "intellectual" and that your roots r from what "consider" the higher "ethnicel group",
not that there's anything wrong with wanting to learn it,
i just think it's better to learn something coz' it really intresting to u and not coz' it 's what "hip" this week...

So yiddish is hip? Who would have thought it!

Great gran had this lovely broken accent in spanish and that made her real funny to listen to. She spoke yiddish only when she was mad at someone or when she was telling my grandma off (which was quite often)

Sadly, I don't feel like I belong to anything, we've lost that jewish root a long time ago and I'm seriously ignorant about what could have been an heritage.
Hebrew has been an interest since I was in junior high and the teacher talked about writing systems, I found Hebrew quite interesting and over the years, been in contact with the applied linguistics are, I've grown to like it more and more.

But yeah, taking lessons is a no-no being so terribly expensive (and unpractical really, unless I teach hebrew afterwards and get back my investment, there's really no application here in Mexico)

It is indeed! Amazing (and dangerous) century to live in.

But still, I'm glad that Mexico has been a peaceful place for the most part since I believe that wars are most devastating and tragic.
Although I think that a war of such dimensions now would be different, there's a lot more communication and it's possible to get first-hand news from other places in the globe. Still, I do hope that never, ever, ever happens again...

(There's so much to talk about... long, long conversations, for which, I believe DA wasn't intended for, lol!)

Actually, I love the bloody mary's that my local bartender makes. Go figure. The only tomatoe related product that I will have. Then again, the celery salt and worcheister sauce and dill weed and tabasco sauce and pickle all help...
