Long story short, this was drawn eons ago and it relates to a wish that dragged Dipper from reality, allowing he and Bill to morph as one.

Oh yeah it's different or it could be a branch. either way, in the ones with just Dipper, Bill Cipher has fused with Dipper to become one powerful consciousness. In the ones with the twins, it;s as if both of them ARE the dream demons to begin with- so like a Gravity Falls AU where Mabel and Dipper are the demons already.
