But, Nipper and Chipper are the dalmatian mascots for RCA. Your checkerboard dogs up there reminded me of them.

Yeh, there's a whole rat's nest about that one. Wikipedia outlines it pretty well in their page about Nipper, having in their tab file, "probably a type of terrier"; no kidding.

Droopy I think is a mix of both blood and basset hound.
