Description
Aster never wanted to be a part of some prophecy. In fact, for the longest time she just wanted to convince herself that maybe it was a mistake she was with the others. Or maybe she had the easy part of just cheering Luca on as he and the others saved Pyrrhia. She didn’t hate any of her prophecy friends, but she just… she wanted to live peaceful life.

But now she was a part of this.

She remembers a conversation she had with Stardust when she was younger, still living with just Luca and Stardust and Singe in that quiet house…

Aster couldn’t sleep, especially learning more details about the apocalypse she would have to somehow solve. So that one night, she kept pestering a sleep-deprived Stardust, who was writing something Aster couldn’t see.

“But… But will we be okay?” Aster asked from Stardust’s side, she badly wanted to cuddle into Stardust for comfort, like she sometimes did with Singe, but Aster knew Stardust was less warm and Aster feared she’d upset Stardust somehow if she tried. So Aster kept her distance, feeling cool air surround her.

Stardust’s writing slowed when Aster asked that question. A deep expression which Aster couldn’t describe washed over Stardust and Aster was afraid she might have upset her. But Stardust still spoke gently, “I don’t know for sure, Aster… I’ve seen many different things happen, and I fear it may be inevitable that some dragons will perish.” She swallowed before continuing, hesitant, “Even one of you may not make it…”

Aster felt those words sink deep and she was terrified. Terrified of everything she would have to do. Terrified that Luca would die.

Terrified that she would die.

The fear was so potent, Stardust’s next words barely sunk in, “But I know, there’s a way. Somehow it’s there. And I believe you will be able to find it.”

Aster just knew she would die. The world might be saved, but she would be dead. She had to die for a prophecy she never wanted to be a part of in the first place.

But after everything… She and the others were so close to the end… And she was still alive.

She had finally accepted that she was a part of this whether she liked it or not. And even after being held under the bloodied talons of Thresher, she was still alive. Even after watching Thresher murder dragons right in front of her, unable to act, she was still alive. Even after she killed a dragon with her own talons, she was still alive.

And everything was adding up. The end was near, but they were moving so slowly trying to figure out some way to save everyone. Aster could feel something had to happen. There was an obvious solution to this… But someone had to die.

And it wasn’t going to be her.

So she lunged straight at Gypsum.

This is how it’s going to end.

Mmm, lotsa drama with Aster. Turns out being held hostage by a serial murderer can really shake you up.
