Description media- charcoal on newsprint paper, touch ups in photoshop.
from- real life study.

Thinking of Vermeer when I named this piece. Even after drawing it I thought of those paintings of the milk maids.
(not to imply this is like a Vermeer.. just a general idea.)

The more I look at this drawing the more I like it. I used to hate it's legs.. but they've really grown on me now.

i like this very much as well, but i would have to disagree with you about the legs. i think the leg in the front looks fine, and even the calf in the back is fine, but that thigh is just a bit too thin and withered looking. especially since it's not in the same style as the rest of the piece. still, the rest is pretty kickass

see taht was my problem that they are conflecting styles.. but it did grow on me for some odd reason, like i enjoy that awkwardness of the 2 coming together, though a part of me still wants to see the top part of the image to continue as is and complete the image. But I have a rule of not going back into life study images as I tend to like to keep them in teh moment the over working or destroying (which i've done that alot of times). Though adding effects in photoshop do make it a nice touch.. course teh drawing will always remain as is even if i put color into it.

i respect that. makes the drawing much more imidiate. the leg becomes the focus in my opinion though, and it's stealing attention away from some really beautiful drawing. but whatever, i'm sure there'll be more where this came from

Very nice style and great color combination. Reminds of posters from Paris in the late 19th, early 20th century.

eewwww his legs grew upon you I don't know vermeer, i've been blasted with names from college i don't think that's one of them yet
I get the feeling of metling within the picture, as if the figure will leans down slightly more and slowly disolve into the darkness around the floor. The way the arm seems so disjointed and floating from the body yet blends in, it's such an intresting feel to it again wonderful, so glad you decided to post them they have all been so awesome. I'd again love to sit and just watch you working ^-^ how you get these wonderful shapes...

fancy a trip to england i'll try getting you into our life art study to work with us

lol, I thought everybody was blasted with Vermeer? He's a pre-Raphileite.. or what ever you call his movement time (i'm not good with early art movements, they don't intrest me as much as the newer movements). Very classical art (the girl with the pearl earning.. they even made a movie on him. Have yet to see it.)

He's very domestic, a tends to be a little blah, but he really does havea creamy, and rich nature to his images, even if it is dull.

I can't barely pay my way to colleg enver mind a trip for someone else to england DAMN! that sucks >.< well amybe when am a well paid rich artist!!

AH now i remember him from a TV program a while back, or rather two pf the pieces. I wasn't to impressed but now know why we haven't touched on him yet. Our work consits of fruits in one project, portraits we can visit in the local galleries (none of his work that i know of there) andhistory of art (whats up to roman times ) am sure we'll touch on him at some point!

i understad the same feel in your images a bit better realising who it is now. his stane isn't anything spectacular, he's just leaning over... nothing superly complex and it as the same... plain feel if you like, not in a bad way of course

hehe, well calling it milk miad.. and teh stance can be domestic. Not liek i'm doing anything too revolutionary with teh figure other then the way i interpert it and translate it on paper. Other then that I just have a nude guy/my good friend in front of me, as we joke and talk about life. Shame the conversations never come in.. but they tend to be domestic too.. well as domestic as a Chan and her friend's conversations can be. hehe. We're an odd bunch I tell you.

Course my presentation is highly modern, so that were me and Vermeer part ways. Silly Vermeer.

well am sure he couldn't have gotten those warm lighting effects withoutusing the candles to light his subject that hed did. but yes i think i'd rather a Chan piccy on my wall rather than his.

and i coud only imagine the conversations you have I do love the pictures though, domestic or ground breaking they work! that's the point ^-^ i'd love 2 or three in a sort of one picture frame cut border by blackness think it would really work in a long image ^-^ would look nice o the wall, secial of my college were in my room we are over watched by a segmented clown

Like i've said before, les in your artwork stand out. These are quite twisted, though, very strange. I like the chosen medium, the character study looks like it was drawn in one straight sketch, as if you didn't lift the charcoal. The work has a great look, not one of my favorites, but another glimpse at your versitility.

Real life studies are always a nessary thing, they make the rest of the work stronger in the long run, and add something different on a whole. Besides that they are great exercises with the eye, proving it's not just the thing that looks, it's the thing that READS.

and if this makes no sense blame it on the fact that i'm half asleep.

Ah, good 'ol half asleep. Does that mean half of your face is paralyzed? Or are you doing the sudden nod off, slam your head on the desk quickly wake up with a jolt only to be conscious for another five minutes until repeating said head banging?
