Description [Edit] Okayyy, I found out what kind of bird this is!! ~Dunadan-from-Bag-End suggested a sanderling, so I looked into it.... And it is! (Thank you!) But it's not just any sanderling.... She sets a record!! Arriving in September of 1986, she's is the oldest bird of her species in any aquarium or zoo. Their typical life expectancy in the wild is five years, but she's still living strong, despite having cataracts on both eyes and a hump on her back! Congrats to her, for sure~ [End Edit]

I have no idea what this girl is. I thought at first she was a snowy plover, but she doesn't have the dark patches. And she's waaaaaay too fat.... Welll, whatever she is, she's adorable. And chubby.

I've never seen a bird like this - and living to 22 is outstanding for any wild animal

It's not a plover but some wader - I', not sure about the species because you come from USA and I come from Europe but it's simillar to sanderling. Nice job with shooting it

Ahhh, thanks so much! I had looked on the Monterey Bay Aquarium website, but sanderling wasn't listed there.... I googled it, though, and it turns out she's the only sanderling there... And over 22 years old! Wowww, I find that amazing, seeing as they normally only live 5 years~ Thanks so much for helping me find this!

22 yrs? fairly impossible - maybe it's just another individual - they're all the same you know

Nahhh, she's the only sanderling there... which is probably why I at first thought she was a plover. She and a female willet both came in September of 1986.... It's on MBA's SeaNotes. Take a look! (It's at the very bottom) [link]

Im shocked... although I have to admitt that you were saying of wild animal, not living in captivity - still, it's really unusual. I send this info to polish bird society mailing group - I think it'll be interesting for them to. Thanks!
