Oh NO!!! WORDS!! To many words, everyone run!!!
For those of you who do not like to read, GO AWAY NOW.

Yeesh. Another set of characters from a story that will never be. =w=

Meet Mae Anne Einburg and Angel Orfeo Avaloz. Angel is Latino, whereas Mae is Jewish. (Yeah, that's right, I made an unoriginal MALE character, BWAHAHAHAHAHA!! )

Anyway, yes they from a story idea taking place in the 1930s, during the prohibition. And it's in New York, woo. How original.

As you all may know, in New York the majority if not the entirety of the Latino population back in those days was Puerto Rican, but Angel is NOT said ethnicity. He is actually Mexican, quite an odd thing back then, I understand. I guess that's what sets him apart from the crowd. That and the fact that he has green eyes. Anyway, he's actually a boy of only 18, and he's already mixed up in the mafia. (How original. ) He's a hit-man, and a damn good one at that, and he's been one for well over six years. He lives with him mother and six other siblings, whom he actually supports and takes care of. His career choice may not be the most desirable, but it's one that will not not employ him because of his race, and it puts bread on the table. He never had much of a childhood, having had no place nor chances in schools, or getting picked on and belittled by everyone, so he left all that and decided to work. He was fortunate enough to catch the eye of a certain group after beating up an entire gaggle of much older punks one night while they tried to rob him of his 18-hours' worth of pay (a total of only three dollars,) and they offered him a much better gig. He takes it, seeing this as a perfect way to help take care of his starving family. A quiet, unsocial and LARGE young man, Angel minds his own business at all times unless he has to apply his- Uh... persuasions. So, when it was time for him to go and get the weekly crate of forbidden liquor at the docks in the middle of the night, he completely ignores the tiny little female that joins him one evening.

Mae on the other hand is an upscale, young Jewish woman who grew up with everything money could buy. She had clothes, foods, all around seeming like the type to be a spoiled white girl. Except for the fact that her brother, a stupid, wannabe gangster brat of a boy God gifted with way too much muscle than his brain knew how to handle, thought it would be good practice to beat, starve and lock Mae away from the world. Her parents were far too busy with their high-scale lives to noticed her getting thinner, weaker and more bruised up every day. Until one day, in her very late teens, she noticed that the planter on the outside of her bedroom window was sturdy and very easy to climb out of, granting her the greastest freedom of all. After that day she spent her life attending jazz clubs, speak-easies, learning to dance and socialize. Throughout her whole life, she had only one friend, another Mexican girl who worked in her house as a cleaning lady, and she helped make her very comfortable around different ethnicities. Mae did not see RACE, she was able to learn a lot about people. After a while her parents figured she was old enough to help out around the house, so they sent her to get their own private shipment of liquor, and that's where she met Angel, at the docks, awaiting the exact same shipment. She of course noticed the tall, dark and handsome stranger waiting there with her, and she was immediately hooked. It didn't matter that he was three years younger than she was.

Angel on the other hand, wanted nothing to do with the girl, his life was busy and complicated enough without the hassle of a bothersome female, but unfortunately for him, Mae was not one to take a hint, or a downright rejection, and she stuck to him like an old gum wrapper.

After a rather bumpy initial acquaintanceship, they grow very close and eventually get together. Angel had actually bought a house to keep her off the damn streets looking for him and out of danger. Years pass, and Mae eventually ends up getting into the game herself, becoming a cleaner for Angel after his "sessions", and completely by accident.

See, one of Angel's own had actually ratted them out to Mae's brother, who actually had no idea where she was, and in a fit of blind and terrifying fury, Angel kills him, over and over, eventually running out of bullets and using his fists instead, making a HUGE mess all over their own living room. Mae, being Jewish, panics at the sight of so much filth all over her beautiful clean house and throws everyone out (including Angel,) and goes to work; cleaning EVERYTHING to the point where there is NO TRACE OF ANYTHING ANYWHERE. Angel sees this, and becomes mildly impressed.

Word gets out to his employer, who wants to find someone who can get the job done well, and decides to hire Mae.

That's mostly what this drawing is about, really. The two of them are on their way to a meeting, to introduce the small woman into the club so to speak. Yay for Mrs. Clean.

Other than that, I like how this drawing came out. Zoot suits are a personal fetish of mine, and I love to draw them. I WANT ONE!! Mae's attire is very flapper, another thing I adore, and it was so fun drawing that dress.

These characters are a result of a random idea Livi and I had one night, and they are ours. Nyuh.

You want a zoot suit to wear? They are kind of cool.

The thirties were an interesting and dangerous time. Women were still very much oppressed at the time, having only gained the right to even vote in 1920. Still an underused period for fiction though I think.

They look pretty good. 0u0

Truth be told, I already kind of HAVE a zoot suit. I just never have a chance to wear the damn thing.

I agree, ya don't see much of that epoch these days. I personally would have LOVED to have been in the 30s! Although, I am a bit big to have survived.

but thanks, yay!

You own a zoot suit? That would be something to see.

I vote, although it's terrible trying to figure out the lesser of available evils sometimes. I'm also a feminist, all it means is that you think people are equal and have equal rights regardless of gender. I believe in total equality really.

You're welcome.

Oh, i belive in that too, don't get me wrong!
It's just that women I find a bit annoying when they bitch and moan about it so much.
Everyone wants equality, ladies, don't think you're the only poor oppressed bastards out there!

Other than that, yay.

I thought that you did, but you had me wondering for a moment there. It actually bugs me a little when people stand around and belly ache about it too. I understand that there are still improvements to be made, but there are plenty of other people who have it a lot worse. We've come a long way from the days when people thought if a woman exerted herself for too long/too much her uterus would fall out (real objection to women in sports and the Olympics for a very long time.)

lol, ok that's just funny in the fact that people were so ignorant back in the day,and we still haven't improved.
