Description Designed and built by me for the vellum furniture competition held annually by the architecture department. there were over 100 entries this year, we had a gallery space downtown in which over 900 people attended the event. every piece on this chair was hand fabricated from the plywood seat and backrest to the steel frame, to the connections.

i used 3 layers of 1/8" bending poplar with maple veneer for the seat and back rest. they were laminated with urea-formaldehyde plastic resin glue. I made molds out of MDF and the ply was then clamped inside for a couple of days.

the frame is made of 1/4" plate steel that i plasma cut and welded

connecting bolts and rubber bumbpers were used to connect the plywood to the steel.

steel frame finished with black epoxy enamel, wood finished simply with a semi gloss clear coat.

i didnt win, was not even in the top ten
