Description
Painted version of a sketch posted earlier. I tried something a little different with painting, leaving a little more exposed tea areas than normal.4 x 6 inches
Watercolor, pearl-ex pigments, micron pen, and tea on 140lb cold press watercolor paper.

I love your tea painting. I tried it once but couldn't work out how to get the balance right. What do you do? do you make a tea layer first and paint on to that? or do you use tea as your water for painting with? or do you go over with tea afterwards?

Thank you very much! For using tea with my paintings, what I do is after I ink with micron pens I would do layer washes of tea, and spatter effects, letting each layer dry completely. I sometimes finish with leaving little bits and clumps of tea grains on it to dry overnight, brushing the grains off afterwards (this adds more texture variety). I make sure that the stained paper is completely dry before I paint with watercolor. Staining the paper first, whether after inking with pen that won't bleed, or after sketching, is best to get the desired effects. This method can also be done when using acrylic paint, if you thin the paint out a bit with a medium or a little water. I hope this helps!

Thank you very much! <3 I may have to try painting this way for a while to see if I prefer it over my usual. This looks much better in person though, as my scanner can't capture the powdered pigments that I used for her potion bottle and other bits.
