Description

(9/26/18) Due to a few critiques given, i decided to update the poses to a more convincing stature. Admittedly the original was a bit rushed, after all they were made with in the same 5 hours

First critique on something super hero related. And boy do I have some choice words to say . . . but first I decided to read the artist's journal to get a good idea why.

Besides being an admin for a Mr. Enter fan group (so I really have to be careful with what I say just to not be meanspirited or whatever) the artist made it clear that he uses a program called Kisekae2 to create a lot of the drawings. Which actually lowers my expectations as I am not really a fan of using doll template game/program to create original drawings. Now if its a video game with a create your own character system (like Fire Pro Wrestling World) I would DEFINITELY accept it; especially if you put effort into creating the characters AND using photo editing software to manipulate the snippits you takes from that game to create an original scene. Seriously, FPW fans are some of the most creative people ever.

Back on topic, I get what the artist is trying to do here. Translate a crossover battle between two heroes with similar characteristics. In this case Superman and Captain America. Its not different with his other two pictures which feature Batman/Ironman and Wonder Woman/Thor. I wouldn't say such a concept of an art is original, but it is fun to make especially when you are a fan of comics. And with the software the artist used, he mange to translate that idea pretty well.

The problem, however, is the program as I don't think it is the type that could be able to create an epic concept such as two heroes fighting. I believe these doll making programs are best used for creating simple models for fashion ideas rather than a full blown action scene. And it really shows with its stilted look and the characters ALWAYS facing the camera which makes me feel like they are looking at the viewer rather than each other. Also something like this would be more appealing if the characters actually showcase expressive poses rather than what is given.

So in short, the limitation of these dolls mitigate the whole impact of such a theme. Its best if the whole thing was, I don't know, hand drawn from scratch.

perfectly fair to believe that, and i do agree that what i use is not at all meant for what i do with it. but in my defense it is what i specialize in. ive seen others attempting to do this kind of kisekae art, but ive never seen anyone else do it this way.

And I acknowledge that.  It is a unique attempt at trying to portray action with such dolls, but in the end it doesn't have that same impact as drawing them by hand/tablet or using a 3D modeling program which allows for more unique posing and angling.

I suggest adding a background. Something is out of proportion, the hands of both characters looks too small in relation to the rest of their bodies and their heads look a bit large. The poses look a bit awkward, for one I suggest making both of them face each other (drawing Superman side-on) with their head facing towards each other, and don't be afraid to exaggerate their poses. The way Superman's cape is billowing is strange, you shouldn't just draw a flat shape and call it a day, the reverse side of his cape would be showing in some places. Also the shading is very inconsistent, Captain America has very odd shading with what appears to be no attention to the light source and Superman has almost no shading at all. I hope this is helpful to you.

this isnt a drawing, this is kisekae2

a digital doll maker, had i the ability to remove all criticized for, id take it.

but unfortunately what's needed to improve is beyond the limits of the platform.

I see. But next time, if you used a doll maker, please say so.
