----------

Story- The snow stopped around mid-day. The landscape had been washed white, with the odd spots of grey and brown where trees or rocks poked out. Blitz walked carefully, placing each foot with care. Behind him he could hear his son snorting as he tried to keep up. They were both tired, having spent the morning chasing down a few stray birds. He paused for a moment to wait for him.

Muscles flexed as Blitz shook the snow from his hide. He could remember one of his own first hunts; accompanying his father into the forest one summer afternoon. His mother had followed them to the property line before stopping to watch him leave. Excitement, nervousness, fear, all those emotions has nearly overcome him as he stepped under the cool shade of the trees. Even at a young age he'd enjoyed the hunt and he knew that Strike would too. From the moment he'd seen his first-born, Blitz had vowed to show him the world.

Looking back at him, Blitz could see the gleam of pride in the young colt's eyes. Strike came to a halt next to his father, legs trembling. A few bird feather's were clenched between his teeth, prizes from the catch. Similarly, Blitz also carried feathers. Together, they'd caught four birds. For Blitz, it was a small catch, but this was practice for the boy. He'd shown Blitz how to jump to catch one of the birds, then permitted Strike to try himself. While Strike went off to find himself a bird, Blitz had caught another. The colt had returned some time later with his own catch and they two decided to head home. It was on their way back that they'd seen the blue jay hobbling along a branch. Strike had squealed in excitement and charged, leaving Blitz with a face full of snow. The bird had probably fallen and snapped it's wing.

Strike had carefully removed a few feathers and turned to his father. For mother he'd chirped and stumbled forward. Blitz nodded, surprised in his son's thoughtfulness. Mari loved feathers and he'd meant to get her some earlier. Now the pair traveled back towards the ranch. Without the snow falling, the area was quiet. Blitz nudged Strike to move him along faster.

As they crested the ridge back to the ranch, another figure came into few. A pale mare stood near the fence, head low as she dozed. Strike let out a loud whine and bolted down the slope toward Mari. The mare lifted her head and waited for the young foal to stop. Blitz descended more slowly, watching the two nuzzle and great one another. When he reached them, Strike was in the middle of telling his mother about the feathers they'd gotten her. Mari's eyes widened as Blitz pulled the feathers from his mane and began to wind them through Mari's.

Strike pranced around as Blitz worked. Finishing with Mari's, he called for his son and began to weave them into Strike's hair. Two in the tail and one behind the ear, Strike shook his head and took off again. Blitz looked back to Mari  to see her begin to pull some of the remaining feathers from Blitz' mane and weave them into his tail. When she was done, Blitz had a feather on his tail and two behind the ears.

Cece sent Blitz up to Imperial Dead Ranch to visit Mari during the winter season. Strike went as well, to get a visit with his mother. No one is sure who Strike's biological mother is. Blitz just came back with him one afternoon, which caused everyone at SFR to freak out and go looking for the wild horse who apparently lived around there. No luck. So, Strike was a bottle baby. Mari happened to be visiting SFR for a short time and the little guy took a shine to her. And now they're a big happy family.

Both Blitz and Strike get another two bird souls for this hunt~
