Description Chapter 2: Interrupted Tryst
In which unexpected friends arrive...

Why was she here? He’d thought he was the only one on this island. Now Aconda was here. Prime chanced a glance back, only to see the stubborn mare a few yards behind. Aconda’s long legs ate up the distance between them. The sight elicited a snort from him; Aconda’s stomach bounced with each stride, nearly knocking her off-balance. He swiveled his head back around and forced himself to run faster. This was insane. He’d thought himself finally free of the blasted woman and there she was, bounding along behind him, pregnant and all. She was going to get herself hurt and it would somehow, some-way, be his fault.
Prime groaned inwardly. He could almost feel Aconda closing in. He was too out of shape to try and out-distance her, especially on the sand. His heavy feet slipped and skid on the slippery surface. Water soaked the fur on his legs, weighing them down even more. This was why he hated the beach, really water in general. There was no hope for him to escape on the beach.
He scanned the treelined for a possible chance at escape. The tall, dark woods stood as sentries along the edge of the beach. A small break in the trees caught his eye. Prime spotted the opening amongst the green pines and quickly turned to charge up the tiny path. The grassy path sloped upwards, with trees closing in both sides. Ahead he could see that it opened out into a much wider trail, or rather a hillside. He could hear Aconda’s breathing as she struggled to gain purchase on the new surface. She couldn’t run quite as quickly up the slope as she could on the beach below. That idea gave Prime some measure of peace.
As the hill slowly levelled out, Prime could no longer hear the sound of approaching hoofbeats. He slowed down to a trot. Had he lost her? He stopped and turned to check. There was a blur of red and white, then suddenly the sky and the grass switched places. He hadn’t lost Aconda after all.

Aconda looked down at her prize and grinned. “Got ya’.”
Prime was sprawled on his back, looking up at his attacker. “Get off.”
“Now why would I do that? It’s certainly a nice view up here,” Aconda purred, leaning over to get a better look at her captive. Captive being an operative word; even laying down Prime was big enough that his chest bumped her own. If he really wanted to move, he would.
“Move.” Another glare.
Aconda ignored him, glancing towards the rising sun. “You know, if you wanted to get away for the weekend you could have picked somewhere with a bit less sand. I don’t think I’m going to be able to get this all out of my hair for weeks.”
Prime didn’t respond. Sighing, Aconda moved off a few yards away as Prime regained his footing. Her side hurt from the run, not to mention the additional weight of her baby. She looked back to watch Prime stand up. He shook himself clean, then turned to regard her. As usual, he looked at least faintly annoyed with the entire matter. Aconda took a few steps closer. Prime quickly backed away.
Undaunted, the mare took a few more steps until she stood beside Prime. It was like standing next to a small planet. She often marvelled in the difference between their sizes.  Her head barely reached his back and one of his feet was bigger all four of her’s. He was a trained hunter with years of muscle and scars to prove it. Yet, in all their years of playing tag, he’d never so much as nipped at her. He’d never hurt her. She leaned against him, taking comfort in the shear size of him.
“Hmmm, what shall we do today, Lover-boy,” she murmured into his side. “I think we could go back down to the beach for a swim.”
Prime grunted.
“I take that to mean no beach? We could go out for a nice hike then.”
Another grunt.
“Hmmm, we could find a nice little patch of grass and-”
“NO.” Aconda stumbled as her partner took a few steps to the side. She glared up at him.
“Rude, don’t just move without saying something. I could have fallen!” she sniffed, walking back to his side. She reached up to stretch her head across his neck. Prime shifted in discomfort, but didn’t step away. Aconda closer her eyes and sighed. They could think of something to do later. Right now she felt comfortable and safe. Prime relaxed a little, dropping his head to graze a bit.

“Well what do we have here? Just two little love birds all cozy together,” a new voice interrupted.
“Huh?” Aconda struggled to open her eyes. What was going on? Prime had tensed up, but he hadn’t attacked whatever it was that was bothering them. She’d drifted off leaning against Prime, and no- oh no.
Aconda’s eyes snapped open instantly. No no no no no no no no, NO. This could not be happening. Eyes wide in disbelief, she glanced towards the opening to the clearing. Two figures separated from the surrounding trees. Her plans of an romantic island romance were ruined. The chestnut mare’s gaze drifted between the two new arrivals: Brutus and Serena. No wonder Prime had tensed up. They both knew these two and neither bespoke good news. What better way to ruin a romantic getaway than an ex-boyfriend and an ex-best friend who liked your ex-boyfriend?
