Whenever dark elves come up in conversation, people gripe about Drizzt. The reason is that in any game, inevitably someone wants to play a good drow with soft purple eyes, two-weapon fighting style with scimitars, and a panther.Now, I don't have a rabid hatred of Drizzt, and I've actually only read a few Forgotten Realms novels. However, my favorite is still this guy. If nothing more, he's got some cool magic items.
'sides, he's a bald-headed drow with a magic but unnecessary eyepatch and a ridiculous hat and a scintillating cloak. What more can you say?

i totally agree with you on the drizzt thing. i for some reason like drizzt but jarlaxle is by far my most fav character in the books. i use to be leader playing jarly in a dnd online game for a few years i got many kudos for role playing him properly XD scary thing was i was not that far in the books .......iam starting to realize he is ether my best dream or i should change my sex and just be jarly XD anyway love the pic

That really was a great character. The thinking, scheming types make for a much more interesting read than the 'above average talented sword-swinger' doing his stuff. I imagine the reason the latter is much more common than the former is that to write a clever/smart character you need to be a clever/smart author. They seem to be in short supply.
The ridiculous appearance of this guy makes him even more interesting. He even keeps changing which eye the patch is over.
Thanks for making me remember this. Like the sketch, though I have to say I always imagined him with an ever playful smile or grin.

And... he's very popular with The Ladies. ;D Honestly, his duel with Ellerly was THE BEST SEDUCTION EVER! I forget which book, I think it was number 2 of the Sell Sword series.
Plus he runs with one of my other favorite characters - Athrogate: Bwahahaha!
I'll always have a soft spot for Drizz and the gang though. I do like some unambiguously good guys.

Good pic. My take on Jarlaxle is that he is somewhat the capt. jack sparrow of the forgotten realms verse, but thats just my opinion ah well keep up the good work!

Veeery nice. Yeah, I agree--there's been an overflow of 'renegade drow' characters, but what about playing NON-renegades? I'd love to play a drow like Jarlaxle, just because he's soooo different.
Anyway, nice sketch of him. Just like I envisioned him. ^^ Good job.
