Still high on How To Train Your Dragon, so you'll be seeing things like this from me for a while.I wanted to design my own species of dragon inspired by the film. What I love about HTTYD designs is that they're based off of various animals instead of just lizards (i.e. birds for the Nadder, alligator/crocodile(?) for the Nightmare, cat/dog/stitch for Night Fury, etc.). I thought it might be awesome if I could design one that was reminiscent of a squirrel.
So this here is something of a land dragon. It is well adept at running and climbing, but it does not have wings suitable for flight. Instead, it glides off of treetops and mountaintops when it needs to. Sometimes if the wind is right it can glide very long distances.

I haven't thought of a name yet, and this design isn't quite finalized. I wanted to know what you guys thought. Any input? Suggestions?

But seriously, this is a great design! I can totally see it zippin' from tree to tree like a sugar glider. <3

Haha. Before I even read your comments I thought "that looks kinda like a squirrel..." so I guess that means you managed that really well.
One thing that I notice is the way the spikes on the back move. It looks like they're laying down in the wrong directions or the spikes go along one side of the dragon instead of on top? Does this make any sense to you?? I suppose if you want some clarification we can talk about it in person. I might actually think of better ways to describe what I'm thinking then.
But other than that I gotta agree with Bree. It's indeed far too cute! <3

I actually meant for them to go down the side. I was going to have spikes on either side of the tail and body, but with this sideview I couldn't find a place to include the other side's spikes. ^_^'

Ah, yeah I saw the new drawing has two rows.... what about putting a little hint that there's another row? It really does look like he just has one.

You might try adding a hint of a ridge for the backbone - using shape or coloration.

Another thing would be to twist the top bit of tail one way or the other so you can clearly see two rows of spikes somewhere.
