I very interested to see the "more to come" you mentioned, but for some reason, this image itself doesn't actually excite me that much.
I think it's that all the octagonal rods are pretty much the same scale. For me, the joy of fractal art is that it has detail on many scales, usually infinitely many. Now, that's not to say art must have "obviously fractal" characteristics to interest me, but I do think this particular piece could benefit from it. It's hard to say why, exactly, except that your previous 3d structure synth fractals (I'm assuming this is structure synth but I think the point stands even if it isn't) mostly still had an element of "unpredictablity" that made them interesting. They still had that hint of wonderful computery alienness, like they were just a shade too complex and chaotic to have been made completely by a human with no algorithmic/randomized input.
I do not get that feeling from this one. It's not unpredictable or chaotic; in fact it seems like this could have just been modeled normally in a 3d program without any sort of fractal element at all. I know to some people, that's not a drawback, and maybe I am basing this critique far too much on what I look for in a fractal specifically. Maybe I'm judging it by a different criterion than I should be. But I think even if this were in Digital > 3d > Abstract or something—or hell, even if someone painted/drew this image in traditional media—I would still feel like it needs a bit more complexity to hold my interest. As it is, it just seems a bit... sterile, static, even ho-hum.
Two things I do like: The lines alone the edges of the rods are a nice touch, as is the way you've done the lighting and shadows.
Miscellaneous complaint: The render is so small! e.deviantart.net/emoticons/e/e… " width="15" height="15" alt="" title=" (Eek)"/>

I really like the contrasts and just its overall design. I could see this being animated to make an interesting screensaver. Nice work as always.

Thank you. I purposely have rendered these in black/white with a bit of a blueish hue/lighting. I plan to add some more color now that I have a better idea of the rendering.
I used structure synth to design this.
