Shay is a model employee if left to his own devices, he's focused, motivated and very serious about his line of work. When he's on the job, he likes to focus on the job and only on the job. Due to his workaholic mentality, he has few social skills and can come off as cold or uninviting towards others. He doesn't know how to speak to others and quite frankly, he has no desire to. He excels in what he does, that just doesn't happen to be talking.When Shay is forced into a situation where he must speak, he doesn't mince words. Some people might even say he's downright hurtful, but to Shay he's just being honest. Due to his inability to connect well with others, Shay tends to be rather reclusive and antisocial. People find it too hard to break through his tough exterior and he finds it taxing to put up with others who are sensitive.If someone does manage to break through with Shay, he more or less stays the same however he may seek them out on occasion. Since Shay rarely does connect with others, he is very protective of those who he does feel close to. He may use his callous exterior to frighten others off and protect those he cares about.
[History]
Being raised with two older brothers is rough, especially when they're superior to you in every way. That's how Shay felt at least. Growing up he was overlooked, under appreciated and unnoticed. Of course, as it is in most families Shay's brothers would tell you differently. Whichever was the truth, growing up Shay never really felt like he belonged in his family. It was true that Shay wasn't as intelligent as his two older brothers and he felt like he was constantly being compared to them. His grades were sub par even when he did his best and studied hard. His brothers on the other hand passed with relative ease and Shay felt as though he was at the short end of the gene pool.As much as Shay lacked in study skills, he lacked even more so in social skills. He was always withdrawn and sullen, perpetually sulking whenever his brother's names were brought up. Yes, he knew they were great and yes, he knew that everyone loved them. They were far more charming than he could ever be, though that wasn't really saying much.Shay managed to find some salvation in tinkering and working with his father out in the garage. It was there that he felt truly right with the world, his brothers were far too busy to ever spend time with his dad. It was the one area where Shay excelled and that was doing things with his hands. Seeing and creating things was far more interesting to Shay than writing or learning ever was. He would become entranced with his work so much so he'd forget everything if only for a little bit.He'd always talked about moving out and going someplace new, if only to escape being compared to his brothers. So it came as to no surprise in the family that Shay was eager to move away upon receiving a letter from Toffee Town.Here, Shay was able to dive deeper into a craft that particularly interested him. Learning the art of being a good blacksmith was not easy, but enjoyable. It was nice being able to make a name for himself in a new place without being held to other's standards. Shay had some basic knowledge working with metals from home, but nothing compared to what he learned over he years working at Souffle Smithy.

Not being one to go out of his way for promotions Bebe's determination to encourage Shay to aim higher was too hard to ignore forever. When a new position for head blacksmith opened up he went for it! Shay is confident in his skill as a blacksmith despite his clumsy tenancies when being watched closely by others. He's sure he'll grow out of that someday too. Hopefully, someday soon..

+ Shay often carries around bandages in case of injuries.+ Shay is more prone to accidents if he's around other people as he tends to get rather nervous.+ He might not be the best at small talk, but he's happy to answer any questions on the job.+ Very unlikely he'd say no if offered to go for drinks, and it's the best way for him to unwind around others.
