Hehe, I'm a lot more outgoing online than I am offline, but I think that's fairly common. I tend to mumble and fumble over words and I get intimidated easily. However my core personality doesn't change, you just have to dig a little more to get to it offline. I also don't like the term "in real life" because I know that the people that I talk to online are real people, or at least have a real person behind them. It doesn't make them any less real in my eyes.
I don't really hide my real name anymore. I used to go by Cobra0789 when I was testing the waters, then I discarded it and changed to Soaring Dragon / Soardra when I started RPing. I just see it as an alternate name for me. One of the reasons why I get a bit irritated when I see other people using it.
I have a few names that I regularly RP with, each has a distinct overriding personality. Drea Gianfar (sarcastic, serious, fearless, calm, bossy), Xantara Avari (wild, uncultured/barbaric, aggressive, protective, anti-social), Reta Blake (bubbly, outgoing, crazy, impulsive), and Sandra Klien (basically a self-insert). That isn't to say that I don't make new characters, but these are my fallbacks. The ones I most frequently think of when I join an RP.
I'm on the fence about Rita Seymour (name-wise), because her name is close to Reta's, yet her personality is more like Drea's with a hit of Xan's.

I thought it was fun when I arrived at a Nanowrimo meeting yesterday and introduced myself as Rhov Anion. Usually I do the whole "my name is Robyn but just call me Rhov because that's my forum name blah blah" but now I'm just like "Yep, I'm Rhov and I'm wearing a 2 foot tall frigging witch hat so nyaaaaah." I was way more outgoing, although not as boisterous as some. Still, it was like I could hide behind the online persona even in public. Even for our NaNo regional group's Facebook page, I joined using my Rhov Anion account because I'm trying more and more to separate "Robyn" from "Rhov." I don't want my family knowing about what I do. Heck, my sister gave me HELL just because I made some political comment on FB that she doesn't agree with, let alone my family's "shock and disappointment" when they found out I'm in support of gay marriage. So "Robyn" is for family and work and close friends who can keep on thinking I'm a bashful nerd. Rhov is for the rest of the world because I don't give a fuck what they think about me. And see, if I dropped an F-bomb in front of my family, I would get a phonecall from my mom and a tongue-lashing about profanity. I had to quickly delete a comment from my best friend that said something like "I'm still in shock that you said "fuck you" to that waiter." I was like, NOOOO YOU IDIOT!!!! DELETE!!! My mom gets furious because my husband tends to say Damn a lot.

Heh, that's one of the reasons why I don't post much on FB and when I do, I make sure that anything that would seem offensive is kept to "best friends" only. Pretty much people I know don't mind my views. My family's a bit like yours. Very christian, against gay marriage, a bit racist, and definitely doesn't approve of swearing.
Also, I made some progress on this one today. Added Lucy, although I'm a bit stuck at the hand and what clothes to give her. She's kinda neked atm. XD

I just saw it. I haven't been on this site at all, just popped in to post a blurry fuzzy pic I wish I had taken with a better camera, and set up nicer than just "ooh, neat, grab phone and snap shot before rushing out of the rain."
I finally set a few groups for friends in FB. One is "Family" with all people related by blood or marriage. The other is "close family." On other words, siblings, aunts, near cousins, or distant cousins who are pretty close to me. So I really wanted to post a pic for my friends to see, my dressed as a witch for Halloween. My family would have blown a gasket.
A) Halloween is demonic.
B) Witches are demonic.
C) Participating in a midnight party lacks accountability and will lead only to sin.
Mostly, the Halloween thing. My folks are so against that, it's not even funny. They would hand out religious brochures to trick or treaters, until finally everyone on our block knew "don't go to that house." Not only was I not allowed to dress up, but I was not allowed to participate in anything closely resembling Halloween, and when I won a plush jack-o-lantern in a school poetry contest, my mom made my unstitch the eyes and mouth and leave it as just a pumpkin. So I posted the pic and blocked all family and "close family" just to make sure no one who might know my parents would see it and mention it. Ugh! Which is why I have FB for family and near friends, and FB for online buddies and writing groups.

Hehe, that's fine. I pop on here about once a day or so to check for messages and if I have anything to post. I've been focusing on writing lately though, so I haven't been drawing much. Doing NaNo, but not really all that serious about it. XD I'm almost to 4k overall. My average is around 300 words a day because I just get too distracted. I'm glad if I get any writing down at all. I've got a skype NaNo group going that gets me doing at least one word sprint a day. I don't have an outline down for it either, so it's all random scenes and getting the characters to talk to me. Hehe, you've prolly seen a couple of my NaNo posts if you've been on Tumblr.
WOW... that's just. I'm glad my family isn't that bad, but wow I feel sorry for your childhood. D: So much close-mindedness.

Well any writing is good. Most of the people I'm hanging out with never actually reach 50k. I just reached 30k and I'm taking a little break, checking all the websites I don't visit during this time since I can easily spend an hour on DeviantArt, another on Tumblr, and two hours on Facebook, haha!

One of the people in my group reached 50k in 10 days. Needless to say we're all jealous. XD It's a really fun group though, so it's all good. I've been spending most of my time on Tumblr nowadays.

I wonder about those people. They MUST have written just about everything out as "notes" and just had to organize it a little to get wordcounts like that. Then again, on my very best day of Nano this year, I wrote 12k in one day, so I guess if you had 5 totally awesome days with absolutely nothing to do but write-write-write, you could make 50k in a week. It's pretty insane, though.

Yeah, I've heard of people getting to 50k in even less time using some random method, but I honestly wasn't all that serious about NaNo this year. XD I'm just happy I wrote more than I did the last time. Mostly I just derped around and made scenes to get my characters talking to me. XD Most of my time was spent helping other people with their novels.

That's fine too. Some people challenge one another and take the competition seriously. I did twice, got challenged to the "Double NaNo," 100k words, and I managed to do it. Brain dead for 3 months afterward, haha! Other people prefer to help other writers. I think it was 3 years ago, I spent once a week mentoring middle schoolers attempting Nanowrimo, and I would totally do that again, although I almost didn't meet my own quota. Other use it as a social gathering. So long as writing gets done, and you have fun, that's all that matters.
