I'd like to say I thought long and hard about posting this, but after a moment of hesitation I decided I wanted to. I wanted to be able to look back at this year update and remind myself not to let this happen again.

The blank months are blank I don't have any art. Not just finished pieces, but any art. I didn't paint, sketch, or even doodle. June's sketch is one of three headshots I randomly did. That was all I did that month.

There's good reasons for my not doing art. But I'm not sure if they're good enough? I don't know. It doesn't really matter.

What does matter is I don't let myself slip this far again. I came back to art with a blank mind on how to draw, how to do things.

I've gone through three different methods for the december wip and it's kinda insane. In my art I can see how frustrated I am with my style and technique. I can see that I know how to draw certain things and yet I can't put it on paper. Why? It actually clicked last night.

My entire art career I focused on a fast style. I didn't care how messy it was, I just wanted to make it fast and "good" looking! And I was really happy with where I ended up. I could pump out drawings and paintings in less than 3 hours if I set my mind to it. What I didn't realize was it didn't matter how quick I finished if I wasn't thinking about what I was doing.

On the third take of the december wip I...went slowly. I did 3-4 base/body sketches and then blocked out clothes. I lined some stuff for fun. I spent a hella long time thinking about winkles (have you ever heard you can think of some of them like a rope? it blew my mind like 4 months ago). I took time to sketch out what i wanted and thought about each aspect, rather than laying down a horribly messy sketch and just paint over it. And it's so, so much better. By taking time to lay things out I thought about form and shadows and ??? everything??? so now i actually have an idea of where to start
