Description Apparently I am on something of a roll.

Only, not really. This one took forever as well...Just so happened that it's a bit smaller than I usually work (20X24 inches or so at 300 dpi) and used this to occasionally keep me sane whilst fiddling with PS I Love You.

Sane is good. Sane should not be under rated.

Anyway!

This is Ellie. Everyone meet Ellie. *waves* She is known by quite a few names in these parts, but when I nabbed the stock image I used for reference here, she was over at but.. you know how pervy people tend to stalk the nude stock providers?

Yeah.

So now she's over at (and make sure you check out her icon. LOVE it ) The image I used isn't currently up over at her place as she's in the process of packing everything up and doing the password thing to make sure only art-types nab her goodies (heh. Naughty!)

I shall place a small preview of the stock image(s) I used over in my scraps for the time being until she has them up where I can link and credit properly.

I shall also pop up some screen shots of the original at roughly 60% sized (cant go original, you cant tell what anything really is ) so you can get the gist of the dimensions.

While I'm here... You know how those stodgy art teachers tell you not to work only on a single area of your painting at a time lest the fairies eat your socks?

Yeah. Turns out that's a fairly good idea, as luck would have it. That way? You're sure not to.. Oh.. I don't know.. inadvertently paint over a FOOT or a HAND by getting all wrapped up (Ha!) in painting folds and drapes.

Also a good plan? Making sure you have the CORRECT REFERENCE OPEN when painting. Yeah, go figure. That way? YOU might actually get the draping right instead of.. Oh, I don't know.. PAINTING IT WRONG.

Not that I can relate to any of that. No. No. Nothing to see here but good planning and execution. *waits for the lightening bolts to strike her dead*

It needs a little fixing around the edges, but since she asked for it for her birthday.. Which was what? 5...6 months ago now? I thought I'd pop the small version up for her to gander at.

Behold! Am positively speedy!

*cough*

Happy Birthday, sugar. I hope you like it...Especially since you're about to encounter one MOTHER of a download for the original file

Enjoy!

::::***EDIT***:::

If anyone is curious, the stock images used are now in my scraps >gallery>browse>scrapbook ( I think that's how that works now.. If I'm wrong, please feel free to correct me

If I'm not? go peek!

Oh hey lookie there.. LINKAGE!

Yeah.. still not the brightest bulb in the box but easy access is good, yes yes?

That's a gorgeous head of hair you've painted there. Amazing detail, especially on the upper back (and the hair! I'm incredibly taken with that particular aspect of this painting).

What a gorgeous piece of work, Stacey... The colors and detail are wonderful, and I absolutely *love* the feel of depth between your subject and the background.

ah, stacey. you do such beautiful work. i love the highlights in her hair and the folds of the cloth. (I like to examine the details)
the cool tones remind me a bit of some of michael's photos - definitely adds a modern feel to a classic pose.
but my first thought of the whole image was 'i wonder what she's thinking'

Sir, I admire your work greatly and thank you for the comment

KILLS me that I actually tried to go out from the photo real on this one and... Considering my many mistakes in making it, that everyone sees photo-real when all *I* see are it's flaws You'll find the photos it was made from over in my scraps. You can go directly to it by clicking the link at the bottom of the artists comments.

Once you see them, you too will see all my mistakes Feel free to giggle at my expense. I know *I* have

Peace.

I took a painting class earlier in my cariculim, but I was never this good at doing drapery.

With Charcole, I could do okay! Painting with color? FAIL.

Great work!

Dear lord in heaven, sweetheart - I'm so so so so SOOOOOO glad you didn't rush this. Seriously.

Holy hell. LOL Um... ok, this is fantastic and I LOVE IT TO PIECES!!! The skin is just perfect (I wish my real skin looked like that LOL) and I really can't tell you've used two different reference photos. It just looks like the one.

The blues you used are just DELECTABLE. I would eat them if a) they weren't made of pixels on my screen, and b) they were actually edible So the colours - yummy. You needn't have worried there

The details you've done - the hair texture for the strands, the detailing around the hands, the way you mimicked the shadow/creases in the skin is amazing.

Needless to say I am SO SO glad you coaxed me into doing 'drapey fabric' stock You rock my world, baby

Stacey73 In reply to nakie-stock [2009-02-19 07:40:47 +0000 UTC]

YAY!!

Was truly worried about the color palette as I know I stepped away from photo real by a fair margin (or at least had THOUGHT I had, but apparently people seem to disagree. Am happy to let them ) But as I was looking to create a more contemporary feel to the work, I thought the cooler tones and enhanced red hair worked well. My primary fear was insulting YOU *nod*

Am ALSO freaking astounded no one else has poked me about the whole two photo thing XD Felt like SUCH a damned dork for mucking it up that I wasnt sure if I could salvage it. Freaking delighted doesnt cover it.

And truly?

Thank YOU, miss Elle.

The stock work you continue to provide has been a long source of inspiration for me, even when I was posting nothing of the work it led to (and subsequently LOST due to computer gods HATING me, bastards. Ugh) But you need to know that just because it wasn't up, didn't mean it wasn't worthy. I love the stock you do and actually have a few more of your draped series planned as paintings. You have NO IDEA how happy you made me when you created that set. Truly. Holy apeshit, batman did you do good.

Honestly had no idea I was the one to coax you into it, but am damned glad my nagging super powers came in handy! You're amazing, you know. Truly.

Dear lord, Warren....That's completely, INSANELY lovely. Not to mention extremely touching as well.

What tools did you use to create it? Have often pondered getting into stone work, but workspace is at a premium lately, sadly. Do share, am most curious!

Its what came out of love really, this is how I see the woman I am in love with she , regardless of all that she is going thru is that beautiful to me. I hope one day she understand it. tho I do believe that day is not far away.

the tools, a hammer and chisel, a rasp and sandpaper, but the Chisel and rasp were very good quality.

*nods* Yeah, that's all part of why she's one of my favorite nude models. Her body style is perfect for classical interpretation even when composed in color tones of a contemporary nude like this one. Its my very first contemporary, to be honest and I am blessed that I had such a wonderfully talented model to create it with. She's made of win

Thank you so much, Berta I'm so pleased you enjoyed it.

I have to say, your children are absolutely adoreable! Congradulations on the crawling! Lord, I rememder when mine started. Was PISSED. Crawled for all of a week then started walking.

*I* was PISSED Can we say mass attack of baby-proofing everything knee high? Why yes. Yes we can

Also very sorry to hear about Marc and the loss of your characters. I know how difficult that can be (both aspects, really) and I hope you at least find some measure of joy in the new game and that Marc manages to pull his head out at some point.

Eh. We can hope.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

KhavenNitefall In reply to Stacey73 [2009-02-18 16:54:09 +0000 UTC]

Aw thanks Stacey!

My daughter is already trying to pull herself up to walk. I am getting velcroe and sticking it on her back end then the other part to the floor so she cannot go anywhere! LOL As for Marc, well, he is a lost cause. I have been hoping and praying for two years he'd see his errors but Nope, he is not that smart. Either way my kids can live with or with out him.

As for my characters, they will live on in all the memories of people I tortured....I mean roleplayed with! My new character is just as much fun and soon the others will fade into the background for references when we all meet up once more.

I have to say again I love this piece! I still cannot believe it is not a photo. Amazing!

just luck i think. it's having a camera ready when you think "this is nice, where my camera..." most often it's at home DUH!

to be honest for every "nice" picture, there are quite a few (read a lot )that gets deleted.

i digress. thanks for the compliment. to me they are just "nice" pictures that i liked taking. that's maybe why it works...

Hee. Go look in my scraps, sweets. Therein you will locate the two (yes. TWO. Because I am observant and opened the wrong damned one and was too far into the painting to make it NOT broken without wanting to put my head through a television freddy kruger style, okay!?....Not that Im sensitive or anything. *cough* ) images side by side that I was SUPPOSED to be using as a reference.

You know.. those things were use to oh...get things to look the same as said reference. Of which? This painting looks like neither and all *I* can see?

Hee.

All the flaws

Am DELIGHTED to let YOU think that, though.

By the by.. your shading has been improving massively lately. What's the deal? New tip?

Ah it's always far too easy to see mistakes in your own work, it looks great to me!
It maybe isn't exactly the same as the references, but it doesn't look wrong either and that's the main thing

I've not really been doing a lot different except trying to use more coloured shadows rather than greys, and more highlighting too.
Glad it's working well!

in the thumbnail i thought "that hair looks familiar... is Stacey doing photography now?"
in the preview i thought "the lighting is a little off... i know that hair & back!"
then i actually read the title & description

your mastery of technique is worthy of , not to mention it being a great portrait of a real sweetheart.
(or is it a reverse portrait? )
