Alanna is a character form a set of fantasy books by Tamora Pierce. I depict Alanna here as she appeared in βLioness Rampantβ the last book of the series. I read these book about a year ago. They are intended for teenaged girls and, as you could well imagine, not the usual stuff I read. Still, it was fun distraction at the time. My favorite character in the book is Faithful, an intelligent cat only Alanna can understand. I loved his smart-ass remarks.This drawing took me about 10 hours to do. The original is 12 inches tall and 8 inches wide. I drew it using .05 and .07 mechanical pencils. The hardest things to draw were her bangs, that shoulder armor, and the cat.

Ms Moon was tired of seeing paladins played "lawful stupid" so she wrote a series to "get it right." Paks is quite battered and scarred by the end of the third book.

Now, I've heard of people playing paladins Lawful Arrogant. Lets see. A friend of mine put it this way. Some folks play their character Lawful Arrogant, Chaotic Stupid, or Neutral Boring. Makes me laugh!
On the other hand, I figure if your having fun, its all good to me.

Ever read the Beka Cooper series? It's in the same world as Alanna but some hundred years before. Even though Tamora's books are meant for teen girls I still read them, because they're amazingly written. The Immortals Series is awesome too...You know, Tamora loves fan art....I'll bet she would absolutely love this

I think Tamora would love it, I've seen other pictures people have done of her characters that she loved and this is better than those. 
The only thing that's hard to get by with the Beka Cooper series is that its written in a journal style. Other than that they're fantastic, hope you like them once you get to them

For years my drawing didn't turn out the way I saw them in my head. I just worked to make it look right enough to show another person. Then eventually I was able to do it better. Still, I occasionally get amazed when the image is exactly what I had picture in my my mind. Doesn't happen all the time.

For years my main focus has been writing because I could get more done with words than it seemed I could get done with drawing. Drawing would make me frustrated whereas I could make words do what I wanted when.
I've actually found that I draw a lot better on the computer than I do on paper - even when using a mouse, which is how I started out for the longest time. Then I found an affordable laptop/tablet that has a keyboard for my writing and a swivel screen for drawing, and I'm in utter heaven. Now I work on both non-stop and feel like I've improved leaps and bounds in the last few months that I've had it.
I used to study people's writing styles to get better at writing. Now I've learned how to study art the same way, and it's amazing what you can learn just by paying attention!

I must admit I'm a bit intimated by tablets. Yet, I know my work will expand and get better if I use one. I could start coloring my work digitally.
