At least the plot didn't contort itself to make them the center of the universe. Kirk didn't stop V'Ger, Captain Decker did. Kirk didn't stop the whale probe, the whales that his CREW brought back did. Archer didn't stop the Sphere Builders, Trip did. The problem with Discovery is that the show revolves around Burnham to such an extent that nobody else is allowed to save the day. Nobody else gets to shine on their own, or put their own skills on display. It's all Burnham, all the time. Burnham being the main character isn't the issue, it's the garbage writing that's the issue.
