John Calvert and son built and race one of these Fords in AA/S. These are true Detroit Muscle cars.

They only built 50 of them and most of them got raced to death.

Wow,only 50...I didn't know that.

focallength In reply to StallionDesigns [2013-04-08 11:00:50 +0000 UTC]

Yup. 25 manual and 25 automatic (Lincoln trans) cars. It was enough to qualify them for drag racing.

They were only sold to drag racing teams.

I used to have a reference on them and if I remember correctly, that was the total production run.

I never new they made so few of them, very interesting.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

focallength In reply to StallionDesigns [2013-04-10 11:23:41 +0000 UTC]

They were built specifically as race only cars. They had no warranty and no radio or heater and had truck bucket seats rather than the standard bench seat. The front bumpers were fiberglass as were some of the other front bits and they had just the outboard headlights. They had to move the shock towers outwards a bit to shoehorn in the 427 and they made other modifications as well. Revell makes a nice kit of the T-bolt. They're selling it as a 2-in-1 kit at the moment. You can build it "stock" or as a T-bolt.

My modeling days are over,my hands are too messed up to handle all the little parts, sadly.

I used to compete in shows at car events in the 80's and 90's.I've sold my built stuff to a collector and most of my inventory of models,I still have tons of parts and a box of stuff I'd like to build, but will probably sell some day.I got out of it when photo etched parts came out.Seemed at that point it was all about who had the most money, not talent, but they are cool parts, cuts down the months of time you invest in making your own from scratch.

focallength In reply to StallionDesigns [2013-04-11 11:32:37 +0000 UTC]

I use photo etched parts from time to time. They make nice car detail sets. They do improve the look of the finished kit, since they can add details that aren't present but would be visible in the final piece, especially interior details and badges and the like. I've also used them for airplane kits, and they really make a difference. The urethane resin parts that are available are really nice, too. They can capture much finer detail than the steel molds used in making the kits and in an airplane cockpit, especially where the canopy can be posed in the open position, it makes all the difference. I don't build much, but I've got a couple of kits I'm working on from time to time. They're re-issues of older kits, so there's some detailing work to do. It's a bit tedious, but I've found some references so it's a little easier.

That's cool,I like doing all the details, wiring plumbing, and thoroughly enjoyed doing a lot of scratch building,I like building tube chassis and roll cages, narrowing rear ends, making all the tin work out of real aluminum, and love doing full on leadsleds too, never did planes,or Military, but always admired the work that you guys do to them to make them Historically accurate.

focallength In reply to StallionDesigns [2013-04-13 22:17:26 +0000 UTC]

Depending on the kit, and my mood, I'll do some wiring and such. Don't do too much scratch building, due to space limitations. I've built planes and military as well. You can go nuts doing the detail thing.
