Description According to legend, Cape Sounion is the spot where Aegeus, king of Athens, leapt to his death off the cliff, thus giving his name to the Aegean Sea. The story goes that Aegeus, anxiously looking out from Sounion, despaired when he saw a black sail on his son Theseus 's ship, returning from Crete. This led him to believe that his son had been killed in his contest with the dreaded Minotaur, a monster that was half man and half bull.

Apart from a world-renowned archaeological site, Sounion is an upscale summer home location for Athenians. Construction flourished between the 60s and 70s, with massive yet minimal villas and condos erected. Sounion is one of the most expensive areas in Greece, with the value of some homes exceeding twenty million euros.

This is gorgeous The sun is strong but you've managed to make it work for you here, instead of it overcoming the entire shot. There is enough detail elsewhere to make up for how bright it is, and it doesn't look blown out. Beautiful

The sun is completely out of place and over powers anything else in the photograph in terms of drawing the eye toward a focal point. Such a shame a great opportunity was lost because of it.

It's funny, the sun is my favourite part! I love the blast of light and how eerie it makes everything else look.

I would disagree with that, while the sun is powerful I don't find it overpowering per say, especially with how it is illuminating the columns themselves. Granted it's blown out but still, a worthy image. There are FAR worse things I see on this website than this.

ap3x In reply to kkart [2011-04-23 06:20:23 +0000 UTC]

Yes it illuminates the columns, but a simple cropping of the image could in turn keep the illumination, and would also take care of the sun stealing the show so to speak. The focus would then be shifted to the columns and the amazing view. I just see nothing to balance out the brilliant white of the sun.

There are far worse things on this website, but I have never stated that this is the worst thing I have ever seen here either.
