I don't like rap.....unless it's 80s rap. But the current rap music is nothing but foul mouthed, gangsta stereotype enforcing cesspool.
Oh and it's demeaning to everyone.

I can actually stand rap but I don't like it a lot and I never really listen to it if I don't like it.

Haupia In reply to DaHanci [2013-07-23 02:50:20 +0000 UTC]
People misjudge the whole genre of rap when there are a lot of artists and songs that go beyond the 'cover' of what rap is. Also, in regards to music, if you don't like it, I don't see what the hard thing is to not listen to it?
π: 0 β©: 1
DaHanci In reply to Haupia [2013-07-23 07:45:58 +0000 UTC]
Well, it's basically all over the radio, and also, if you don't like it, you don't like it. So this is a stamp for that. It's like stamps against anything. The point is that it says you don't like rap.
π: 0 β©: 1
Haupia In reply to DaHanci [2013-07-23 09:29:15 +0000 UTC]
Not really. What's on the radio tends to lean towards a lot of pop, a bit of r & b, and now an upcoming of electronic music. Though yes, there are a few rappers and for Macklemore and Lupe Fiasco, both who have work/music on the radio, if you actually delve into what they create, you'll see much more than what people probably assume of their work.Β

DaHanci In reply to Haupia [2013-07-23 22:18:28 +0000 UTC]
I Β answered your question. The point is that you just say you don't like rap. Also, the reason you don't 'delve' into rap is thatyou can't understand most of it.
π: 0 β©: 1
Haupia In reply to DaHanci [2013-07-26 11:31:03 +0000 UTC]
An incorrect assumption. Even the simplistic rap that serves no purpose and is neither fun nor good (in my opinion), can be understood.
If you can't understand songs such asΒ Starting Over (feat. Ben Bridwell) by Macklemore,Β Open Your Eyes by Immortal TechniqueΒ (The 3rd World), Escaping Arkham by Common Market, Yuri Kochiyama by Blue Scholars, Love by Eternia, Mineshaft by Dessa, Optimist by P.O.S, Guarantees by Atmosphere, #1234 by Lupe Fiasco (Or Bitch Bad by Lupe Fiasco), Uncle Sam Goddamn by Brother Ali, Escape Artist by Sage Francis.Β
My friend, there's a whole world within the rap genre (and of course, in all genres), if you choose to stay ignorant about it, that's fine but please do not believe the falsehood that 'you can't understand most of it' or that 'it's only about women, money, cars, and drugs (in the stereotypical sense)' because there is so much more to the genre than that.

However, a lot really is like that, sadly. But I do like some rap, there is some meaningful stuff out there.

Macklemore has some really nice, meaningful rap on his album, The Heist.
Obviously now a days, one must satisft the need of those mindless fans who
like to hear about tits 'n ass, but I find Macklemore actually tells a story
in most his songs.
Its a matter of looking for the good stuff, if you play it by popularity,
you'll be greatly disappointed which it seems you have been so far.

I like Eminem. He puts all his anger into his songs. Which I like.
Macklemore amazed me with Thrift Shop and Here We Go Back.
Macklemore is amazing, so is Eminem.
I used to like Nicki Minaj. But..meh...
Yes, all rappers sing about today is getting high bewbs and ass and
other ridiculous stuff.

Because thats the kind of mindless fans that make them their money.
And lets face it, we all do work we despise. For artists its giving into
demand in order to make a living. Its quite sad really, but that doesnt mean
the good stuff isnt out there.

OK, if you want good stuff, go for Zebra and Rapbit's cover of Just be Friends. THAT is good rap.

Why anti-rap though? Why not just 'I don't like rap, what about you?' (but catchier). You know what, I don't even care, you can do as you wish, lemme just tell you that not everyone will agree.
