Description Sorry, but I don't value animal life over human life. I don't even value them equally. If I had to choose between saving my little brother and saving our pet cat, I'd save my little brother.

It doesn't mean I hate the cat, it just means I love my brother more.

inb4 nitpickers pointing out that humans /are/ animals. We are. We're also more.

"inb4 nitpickers pointing out that humans /are/ animals. We are. We're also more."
Honestly, I agree with both of you.
I appreciate humans as much as animals, I honestly sometimes feel as if they ARE humans.
But I think that's no real reason to call someone a "dumbarse", just saying.

Same here. I value a human life over an animal life.

Okay, an elephant or hitler? Which would you rather live with for a year?

The choice to do right is meaningless unless one is also capable of wrong.

It would depend on what the wrong doing is. I support animal welfare and human rights, but I would value the life of any of my pets over say someone who tortures or abuses children.

Hmm. You point out something I should have been more specific about.

I do believe that when a person commits an act that deeply violates another's rights (i.e. rape, murder, child molestation) they should lose their own rights in proportion--so such a person would deserve less protection than, say, a family pet.

I would agree that humans are unique in have the capacity to be truly evil, but I don't agree that that capacity automatically makes us 'morally inferior.' Like I said before, it's about what you choose to do or not do. Am I making sense? C:

Yes, you are. I guess I also made too blanket of a statement with that quote, it was just food for thought. I very much value the lives of other humans that are decent folk. However, sometimes I ponder what makes us so much better and deserving than any other being on this planet, the main differences are that the average person has more control over their baser instincts than the average animal, and that people tend to have sex for pleasure instead of just procreation. I don't doubt that we are more evolved in many ways, but in others we are lacking. But at the end of the day, we are all capable of the same level of suffering, joy, and sorrow. I don't believe that when it comes to suffering humans are different than any other living feeling being on the planet. I don't have a problem with things like say eating animals, that even happens in nature with other animals, but we should still show compassion to those beings since we have the capability of distinguishing right from wrong.
