According to Ol’ Folklore of Maine…
Back in the 1800’s in the State of Maine, there was a story about a young girl that acquired strange powers and later on disappeared entirely from the small town community. According to the story, Mary Ducces, was a homely girl and constantly picked on by the other kids. The boys nick-named her, “Medusa” and constantly tormented her to the point that she left school entirely and went to help her Uncle Stan at his saw mill. Now Stan knew she wasn’t the prettiest thing to look at, but she was a damn good worker and that is all he cared about. Mary worked with her Uncle since the age of 15 and loved to hear his stories of when he was a younger man and all the crazy things that he did in his life. The one thing that Mary loved the most was to go on hiking trips by herself. Her Uncle had several draft horses that he used to log trees from the woods for the mill and on her 18th birthday she asked her Uncle if she could use one of the horses for a camping trip and that she would be gone for the weekend.
Of course, her Uncle said, “Yes”…
The weekend finally came and her Uncle just brought in a fresh load of logs to be processed in the mill. The river flowed by the mill and Mary always wanted to go up the river to see if there were any good swimming holes.
“Don’t worry Mary, we’ll take care of these logs next week,” Stan said, “Go have fun.”  Mary waved and headed out with the horse. There were very few clouds in the sky and a warm summer’s breeze was blowing. Mary loved the sound of the birds singing and the gentle roar of the river. She saw deer along the way, rabbits hopping away and squirrels chasing each other in a playful manner. She loved animals more than humans for the basic reason that the animals were not judgmental.
About a half days journey on horseback, Mary encountered three separate streams that flowed into the river. She decided to take the one to the left so she wouldn’t have to cross the river. For a couple more hours she traveled and realized that she better stop and set up camp. She tethered the horse and fed him some oats and noticed that he took a liking to the tall grass that was growing in the area. The chirping of the crickets and the steady flow of the stream helped Mary go to sleep fast. Daybreak came quick and the chirping of the birds woke Mary up from a blissful sleep. She packed up camp and decided to walk the horse until the dense vegetation cleared up a bit. She noticed as she was walking that she didn’t hear the birds anymore and the woods were eerily quiet. In the distance she could hear the roar of water crashing down upon the rocks.
Mary ventured onward along the stream until she came to a clearing; she gasped and exclaimed loudly, “Oh my God!”  “This is beautiful!”  The stream opened up and had a pool of water that was deep; above the pool was a water fall. She looked around and found a good spot to set up camp and debated on staying one more day to explore the area. The horse was acting strange and didn’t want to go near the falls; Mary tethered the horse further away until he was comfortable. There was a slight shimmer to everything in the area and she noticed that for some strange reason she felt excited. Her heartbeat was fast and for some reason she had the shakes that would come and go. “What’s a matter with me?” She thought, “A good swim should calm me down.” The water felt great on her skin as she waded into it and in a splash she was under. She couldn’t see clearly under the water, but it appeared that the rocks were pulsating with a light of their own accord. Mary came up for air and found a rock just beneath the surface that she could stand on, “I’m not telling anyone about this place”, She thought to herself. She looked across the way, and saw a strange glow coming from the waterfalls. She had no idea, what this strange glow was and went to investigate it. As she swam closer, she could feel a strong sensation within her body. She crossed through the falls and saw an opening that looked like a cave. Out of curiosity, she went and investigated this. Along the walls of the cave were shimmering crystals, she went further in towards the light. She felt something within her body an energy that she could not explain. What she saw next was something that she never saw in her entire life. In that moment, the events of her life are about to change to something she will never understand. Mary blacked out and entered into a wormhole beyond space and time; beyond all the dimensions.
