The one thing with Tali: isn’t there a huge age difference between her and Shepard? In the first game, at least, she’s the Quarian equivalent of a teenager while Shepard is an adult. I feel like Shepard as mentor makes a bit more sense.

A small age difference is not a bad thing, especially in the long run. Take 7 years for example; when the man is 70, will it be a big difference that she is 63?

She was 20 something in ME1 if I am correct, and on her pilgrimage. So I guess in Earth standards, it would be like someone fresh out of highschool. So yes, in a way she still is a teenager.
Personally, I see her more as a little sister than a romantic partner for my Male Shepard. She is actually the same age as Jack, so for me, I was concerned more with how I connect with the character. And for me, I think I resonate more with Jack.

One of my main reasons for playing and getting into Mass Effect in the first place was Tali. I hadn't really heard of Mass Effect before until I found a video of Shakarian then I saw Tali and Shepard and I was like, "Okay, I'm DEFINITELY playing this now." Because I hadn't played nor even knew a single thing about the franchise I actually thought that Tali was a robot or something (because of the visor) and still loved her anyway. Love her character so much and I'm happy that she (along with Garrus) remain in your squad throughout the trilogy. Tali is my space waifu and Garrus is my space bro.

And whenever I do a playthrough with male Shepard (which is 99% of the time) I will ALWAYS romance Tali.
