It had begun to rain when Inanis visited Freya, who was with her siblings. Inanis had come simply to study the subspecies that was an Imp, but now he was stuck with them and their games.

Minos always gave him odd looks, while Louie poked their head out of the tree house to see the rain.

"We should tell spooky stories to pass the time!" Freya announced as Inanis shuffled his paperwork and put it in his bag. Inanis rolled his eyes, so cheery, but...a glint of mischievous shined in his eye.

"Very well Freya, may I go first?" Inanis asked, and soon the grey child sat across the 3 siblings, with glowing rocks between them for 'mood lighting' and told his tale.

'Long ago, before dark magic was banned, there was a scientist by the name of Victor.

Victor sought to study the effects of magic and sought to study it at its source for us, our magic glands. The strange organs by our eyes were a topic of interest for many scientists, even now we don't understand them completely. It seemed for some gro, certain magic was easier than others, while for others it was much harder. Seeing this...Victor came up with an experiment to see what would happen if the magic glands where switched in certain individuals.

Now, no sane gro would volunteer for such a thing, after all, too easily it could be to have a gro become blind and magic glandless....so he looked for the next best thing.

Wynglings.

Now...these wynglings where those with born strength in certain magical fields. Like a wyngling who can dowse for water and never be thirsty, or a wyngling who when they cry causes static build up...or even a wyngling who when scared could become one with the shadows.

He gathered children of all 8 elements, and brought them to a secret lab, far away from any government, and with his assistants, began their study.

For the first months of just observing the wynglings, everything was normal, they displayed their powers under certain tasks and nothing major happened. On assistant wrote how subject 'light' seemed to always be creating light since their power was triggered by happiness.

But then came that day...the day that Victor began his operations. 2 by two, the glands of the children were switched with one another. Fire was switched with water, earth switched with wind....and finally, light was switched with dark.

Only half of the children survived the operation, and they were never the same. Some of their eyes clouded over, becoming blind, while others became sickly.

However...a drastic change was seen in the light and dark wynglings.

The one born with dark magic could now control light magic at his young age, nothing compared to a true light master, but enough to cause Victor to study them more.

The one born with light magic...they simply didn't heal as fast as the others, and their eyes became pure black, with no light. No matter what was said to them, they did not speak or make a sound and simply stared at you with their dark eyes.

One night, when Victor was checking up on the wynglings he heard laughter from the dark-eyed child's room and went to investigate. The room was inky black, and all that he could see was the child's pale body, drained of color.

And for the first time in months... the child spoke.

"I͝ ̨hea̛r t͠heir̕ vo̶i̸c͞e҉s͢ ́doc҉t̷or͞.....͢the͏y ̧t̴el̶l̕ ̧m̧e ͞your͡ ͏sinś d̛o͘ctor͘..͝.͜

̧.̴.͞.̧.̵.͡. ̛do y̷ou ̧wan̨n̵a ͘h͡e̛ar ͟the̵m t͘o͞o?̕"

Screams were heard throughout the building, the assistants and children who well enough ran from the building as darkness consumed it.

Those who escaped, saw the building vanish before their eyes...and never saw Victor or those trapped inside again.'

One thing went to another on the discord and Inanis tells Freya and her siblings a spooky story that may or may not be true.

writing this was a real challenge since when I do write horror I go for more natural things, like creatures in the woods [cause as much as I like the woods the scary me shitless of something like the rake being out there.]
